Buckingham Palace is the Queen's official and main royal London home. It has been the official London residence of Britain's monarchy since 1837.
Buckingham Palace is not only the home of the Queen and Prince Philip but also the London residence of the Duke of York (Prince Andrew) and the Earl and Countess of Wessex (Prince Edward and his wife) and their daughter.
Buckingham Palace is also an office of the British monarch, an art gallery and tourist attraction.

Every year some 50,000 invited guests are entertained at garden parties, receptions, audiences and banquets. The Garden Parties, usually three, are held in the summer, usually in July. The Forecourt of Buckingham Palace is used for Changing of the Guard, a major ceremony and tourist attraction (daily during the summer months; every other day during the winter).

Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms including 19 state rooms, 52 royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 offices and 78 bathrooms, a cinema and a swimming pool. It also has its own post office and police station.
About 400 people work at the Palace, including domestic servants, chefs, footmen, cleaners, plumbers, gardeners, chauffeurs, electricians, and two people who look after the 300 clocks.

Queen Victoria was the first monarch to live at Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Family

The British Royal Family's surname is Windsor. They changed their name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor in 1917.

The Royal family are members of the Church of England. The Royal family can only be Church of England. Roman Catholics are barred from succession under the Act of Settlement (1701)

The Queen is Head of the Church of England - a position that all British monarchs have held since it was founded by Henry VIII in the 1530s.
Although the Queen is no longer responsible for governing the country, she carries out a great many important tasks on behalf of the nation.
As Head of State, the Queen goes on official State visits abroad. She also invites other world leaders to come to the United Kingdom. During their visit, Heads of State usually stay at Buckingham Palace, or sometimes at Windsor Castle or Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

Members of the Royal Family participate in hundreds of public engagements yearly throughout the whole of the United Kingdom, as formally recorded in the Court Circular, to honour, encourage and learn about the achievements or endeavours of individuals, institutions and enterprises in a variety of areas of life. As representatives of HM The Queen, they often also join the nation in commemorating historical events, holidays, celebratory and tragic occurrences, and may also sponsor or participate in numerous charitable, cultural and social activities.

Данная разработка является актуальной, так как даёт учащимся представление о стране изучаемого языка, её истории, культурной жизни.

Чтобы овладеть любым иностранным языком, мало заучивать слова и грамматику, надо ещё и знакомиться с культурой, литературой, историей этой страны, знать её – тогда и языком будет овладеть легче.

Основной целью урока является развивать умение читать с полным пониманием содержания текста.

Для достижения поставленной цели предполагается решение следующих задач:

- развитие интереса к познанию страны изучаемого языка, её истории и культурной жизни;

-формирование навыков самостоятельной учебной деятельности на основе дифференциации обучения .

Содержание урока позволяет:

-учащимся выявить свои способности в изучаемой области знаний.

-учителю использовать межпредметные связи (английский язык-география, английский язык-история, английский язык- информатика, английский язык-литература) и поможет учащимся приобрести целостную картину окружающего мира, ликвидировать односторонность и примитивность мышления, неумение сравнивать, анализировать, обобщать, переносить полученные знания и опыт на решение новых задач.

Well . Today we’re going to speak about a family, but this family is unusual. This family is famous all over the world. Look at the screen. SLIDE 1-2

The theme of our lesson is “THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY”.

What would you like to get to know about this family? Would you like to know where it lives, how they live, if their daily life is the same as ours?

I think, it’s always interesting to get to know about the life of famous people.

The British Royal Family

Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of Great Britain. She is also the Queen of 16 countries, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand among them. 150 million people live there. She became the Queen in 1953. At the moment she is the longest ruling monarch in Britain. She works hard for her nation and has regular visits to foreign countries.

The Queen was born on April 21, 1926. She was born of the royal House of Windsor. Queen Elizabeth II is a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her children and grandchildren are all members of the Royal Family. The main Royal residence in London is Buckingham Palace.

Members of the Royal Family support the Queen in her many state and national duties, the help by work in the UK and overseas. The Queen and Royal Family are symbols of Great Britain and part of British history and culture.

The Queen has four children – three sons and a daughter.

Her elder son Charles, Prince of Wales, is the next person in the line to the throne.

The Queen’s grandson Prince William is the second in line to the throne. In 2011 he married Catherine (Kate) Middleton in Westminster Abbey. They are now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

In 2013 their first child Prince George was born. He is now the third in line to the throne after his father, Prince William, and his grandfather Prince Charles. Their second child Princess Charlotte was born in 2015. She is the 4 th in line.

Elizabeth II's full name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary. She was born on April 21, 1926. She never went to school and was taught by home tutors. In 1947 she married Prince Philip; he was created Duke of Edinburgh. A year later she gave birth to a son, Charles. In 1950 she gave a birth to a daughter, Anne. Elizabeth succeeded to the throne after the death of her father in February in 1952. Her second son, Andrew, was born in 1960 and the third, Edward, in 1964. The Queen is Head of State of the UK and 15 other Commonwealth realms. The elder daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, she was born in 1926 and became Queen at the age of 25, and has reigned through more than five decades of enormous social change and development.
