I have many friends in my class and I really love them and appreciate our friendship. That’s why I can say that September 1 is one of my favorite days in a year. After long summer holidays I am always happy to see them all again at school. We meet each other, talk, hug each other, share positive emotions and memories about summer.
As you understand September 1 children in my country go to school. Usually we have ceremonial celebration in the morning with all pupils and teachers and after that we meet with the tutor and classmate to discuss next year. I am always so surprised how much people can change during 3 summer months. We become elder, wiser, stronger and more beautiful and handsome. I am also so happy to see my teachers and other workers from school.
Usually for me September 1 is the day when I start new life. My mom buys for me new nice clothes, bag, exercise books and pens. I get a good motivation to study more and more. Actually I have good results because in future I am planning to go to university. That’s why I am doing my best to succeed in all subjects. My favorite ones are English, History, Russian and Physical Education. I strongly believe that for many other pupils that is a special day.
Sometime I feel little bit sad because a Day of Knowledge is also a first day of autumn. Every year we become elder and personally I miss childhood.
My mom says that in future I will miss school life and this day will remain in my mind forever. She was also a very smart girl at school and really enjoy that life. That’s why she became a teacher. Who knows maybe in future this profession will be also familiar to me and I will celebrate September 1 over and over again.

У меня много друзей в классе, я всех их очень люблю и по-настоящему дорожу нашей дружбой. Вот почему я могу сказать, что первое сентября один из самых любимых дней в моей жизни. После долгих летних каникул я всегда счастлива видеть их в школе снова. Мы встречаемся, разговариваем, обнимаем друг друга, делимся позитивными эмоциями и воспоминаниями о летней жизни.
Как вы поняли в нашей стране дети идут в школу первого сентября. Обычно в этот день у нас торжественная церемония с самого утра, когда собираются все ученики и учителя на линейке, а затем встреча с классным учителем. Мы говорим о планах на грядущий год. Я всегда так удивляюсь тому, как сильно мы меняемся за 3 летних месяца. Мы становимся старше, мудрее, сильнее, более красивыми и привлекательными. А ещё я безумно рада видеть всех учителей и работников школы.
Обычно первое сентября для меня - это начало новой жизни. Моя мама покупает для меня новую одежду, сумку, тетради и другие принадлежности. Я получаю очередной заряд мотивации, чтобы учиться ещё усерднее. Хотя у меня и так очень хороший результат в школе, потому что в будущем я планирую поступать в университет. Поэтому я так и стараюсь преуспеть по всем предметам. Мои любимые предметы это английский язык, история, физкультура и русский язык. Я очень надеюсь, что для многих учеников первое сентября тоже является особенным днём.
Иногда мне становится грустно от того, что День знаний является и первым днём осени. С каждым годом мы становимся старше, но лично я очень скучаю по детству.
Мама говорит, что в будущем я буду скучать по школьной жизни, а этот день я буду помнить всегда. Она была очень смышлёной ученицей и радовалась каждому школьному дню. Поэтому она стала учителем. Кто знает, может, в будущем я тоже познакомлюсь с этой профессией и буду праздновать первое сентября из года в год.

The First of September
We call September 1 the National Day of Knowledge and celebrate it in all parts of our country. Teachers, pupils and their parents gather at the schoolyards in the morning of this day. There can be different performances and concerts dedicated to this holiday. The principles of the schools speak of the importance of education and congratulate pupils and teachers. After that, pupils give flowers to the teachers to congratulate them with this holiday and to thank them for their work, patience and energy.
It is also the beginning of the new academic year in institutes and universities.
Students and tutors congratulate each other; sometimes they also have performances or meetings at the Assembly Halls of institutes.
Knowledge is very important in modern life because it helps a people to choose a future profession, to work well and with pleasure. Education not only gives us new knowledge, but also shows us how to work together with other people, in most of professions teamwork is very important.
Self-education is also useful for future profession. Nowadays it is easy to find all the necessary information. There are optional courses that one can take, specialized books and magazines that one can read, TV-programmes one can watch and articles one can read on the Internet to prepare well for practical life and future profession. One must also study hard and get good marks.
Knowledge plays a big part in our social life; it helps us to become interesting people and to make new friends.

Мы называем 1 сентября Национальным Днем Знаний и празднуем во всех уголках нашей страны. Учителя, ученики и их родители собираются во дворах школы утром этого дня. Могут проводиться различные представления и концерты, посвященные этому празднику. Директоры школ говорят о важности образования и поздравляют учеников и учителей. Самообразование так же полезно для будущей профессии. В наше время легко найти необходимую информацию. Чтобы хорошо подготовиться к реальной жизни и будущей профессии можно ходить на специальные курсы, читать специализированные книги и журналы, смотреть телевизионные программы и читать статьи в Интернете. Так же нужно усердно учиться и получать хорошие отметки.
Знания так же играют большую роль в нашей социальной жизни, они помогают нам стать интересными людьми и завести новых друзей.

The 1 st of September is a national holiday in Russia and in several other countries of the former USSR: Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan, etc. It is traditionally called “the Knowledge Day” and dedicated to schoolchildren beginning the academic year, to their parents, and teachers.
In the past, in Russian Empire, many rural and city schools, gymnasiums, and universities started their year in autumn because of various reasons: historical (before the calendar reform of Peter I a new year had begun on September 1) and agricultural (peasants finished their field work in autumn). However, the Knowledge Day became an official holiday only in 1984.

Usually, Russian schools have a special schedule on this day: there are no lessons, especially for junior classes, just festive events. All the students gather together, and headmaster with head teachers make a congratulatory speech, as well as teachers of the first classes. They wish to first-graders an interesting and successful school life. As a sign of gratitude and respect, students give flowers and chocolate to their teachers. The main symbols of the Knowledge Day are the bell with red ribbon and its joyful ringing. As for students of senior classes, colleges, and universities, on September 1 they study but congratulate professors as well.

The academic year in other countries starts on different dates: in late August or in early September in the USA, on September 2 or 3 in France, on April 1 in Japan, etc. Nevertheless, it is, in any case, an important and exciting day for students of all nationalities.

The Day of Knowledge in Russia
Every year on September 1st we celebrate the ‘Knowledge Day’. This day is celebrated in all parts of Russia. The holiday originated in the USSR June 15, 1984.
This day we call often simply ‘September 1st’.
It is always solemn and exciting especially for those who go to school for the first time. Most children go to school at seven. They are preparing for this day one week before September 1st. They go to the stores with their mums or grandmas to buy a school uniform, work books, pens and other school supplies.
Children dress in their best outfits. Girls often have big beautiful white ribbons in their hair. Boys wear white shirts. On this day most students bring flowers to their teachers.
Usually teachers, parents, and their children gather at the school yard in a festive lineup in the morning. A head teacher congratulates students with the Knowledge Day first. Special words, of course, for the first graders.
Students read poetry about school on this day. There is a ‘first bell’ ceremony for children coming to school for the first time. Traditionally, a first grade girl holds a bell in her hands. She sits on a senior student’s shoulders and rings the bell.
After that children go to the classrooms with their teachers and give them flowers as a sign of respecting of them. It’s not a studying day, it’s just a short day for all students. Usually they have a formal class where a teacher tells something new and interesting for students. After that they go to the movie or to the theater, or to the park.
The Knowledge Day is a true holiday for people who are related to education, especially for all teachers and students. We are looking forward to an exciting and wonderful academic year!

The first of September is the first day of school. It is a happy day for all schoolchildren and their parents. It is especially a great holiday for those boys and girls who are beginning to go to school. Let's go out and see what people are doing in the streets this morning. There are a lot of schoolchildren in the streets. They are going to school. Boys and girls are carrying school-bags, many of them have flowers in their hands. Big pupils are going to school by themselves, but small children are going with their parents at their side. There are pupils in the schoolyard. They are not playing games this morning. They are speaking about the summer holidays, about their new teachers and what is new at school. Music is playing and soon a meeting begins. The pupils, their parents and other people who are present listen to the director's speech. Then a small girl with flowers is ringing the bell. The pupils are going to their classrooms and school year is beginning.
