A national Park is a protected area that is similar to a nature reserve. Most often, a national Park combines natural areas and various objects. Now in modern times, wild tourism is gaining momentum in places where there is no civilization at all. Visiting ancient culture monuments is becoming more and more popular. With such monuments, national parks have long been formed, which are always waiting for a new flow of tourists.
A national Park is not only a territory, but also a responsible organization. The main task is to protect monuments and important objects. Everything on the national territory is protected by law and the Constitution. A person who engaged in vandalism on this territory can get a very real term behind bars.
All national parks are accessible to all people of any nationality. National parks do not belong to anyone, their rightful owner is a free people and society.
At the very first stage of the formation of the national Park, the issue of the main part of the Park is resolved. In other words, all parks are divided into groups and subgroups, and each Park has a predominant part that puts the final point in the Park's themes. In Russian national parks, emphasis is placed on several modes or zones: protected, regular, and maintained.
The main goal of the national Park is to preserve and improve natural areas. National parks came to Russia from the West, or rather from the United States in the late 19th century. They began their existence at the beginning of the 17th century, but initially did not protect nature. These were the usual parks for a modern person. But after a couple of decades, unions began to emerge that stood up for the protection of nature. These social groups soon expanded into national parks .

In today’s series “Read and listen in Russian” designed for your Russian reading and listening practice we’d like to tell you about a wondeful place – a National Nature Reserve Krasnoyarsk Stolby. “Stolby” is the plural of “stolb”, the Russian for “pillar”. The regular Stolby goers call themselves “stolbists”, and the public activity as a whole is called “stolbism”. It is an exceptional activity with a long history of over 150 years and old customs recorded in a special folklore.

Krasnoyarsk is the largest city in Eastern Siberia and the Far East. It was built by the Cossacks in 1628, and currently has 980,000 inhabitants. But Krasnoyarsk is mostly worldwide known due to the nature reserve “Krasnoyarsk Pillars.”

Krasnoyarsk Columns is a unique phenomenon. It is written a lot of books, articles, poems, and songs about it. The movies are made about it and they are the source of inspiration of artists. Many lives and events are connected to it. A unique move of “stolbistov” was born and still alive there with its own traditions and unique folklore.
There are just “Columns” – open for tourists rocks, and “Wild columns” – rocks located in the depths of the reserve, access to which is restricted. In one column at a time can be a lot of people, so there happens real ‘traffic jams’ there. Unfortunately, very often people fall down from the columns and die because most of them climb there without safety equipment and it’s more than a dozen meters to fly down.

There are roes and elks. There you can find a flying squirrel or a bat. The most common plant is fir.

Therefore visiting reserve you must be very careful and regularly inspect yourself and travel companions for the presence of ticks.
The area of the reserve “Stolby” closely borders the city of Krasnoyarsk, so tourists usually do not have problems with accommodation: there are enough hotels in the city where you can stay for the night. To get out of the city to the reserve you can by public transport (he doesn’t reach the boundary of the reserve only 2 km). This distance visitors usually pass on foot or use the reserve’s bus on weekends, which delivers them directly to the reserve.
To stay overnight in the reserve “Stolby” you can in a camp, which runs from May to the end of summer. Tourists have electricity, firewood, gas oven, toilet, and a pallet under the tent. But in this case, you must send a request in advance.

Green Park is the smallest of capital’s eight Royal Parks. It has a triangle shape and it is situated next to Buckingham Palace. Originally the park was opened as a hunting ground by Charles II. Only in 1826 Green Park became available to public.
Nowadays Green Park attracts hundreds of people every day who come there to have picnics on grass, to lounge on alluring deсkchairs or to walk around, delighting the atmosphere and nature.
Hyde Park – is also one of the Royal Parks but it is considered to be one of the largest ones and certainly the most famous. This park used to be a hunting area as well. Henry VIII appropriated this land from monks of Westminster Abbey for hunting deer. Even when it was open to the public, the park was visitied exclusively by the upper class.
Now the park is a place of great interest not only bacause of its beauty but also of the oldest boat lake, Serpantine, that is located in the Hyde Park. It is possible to see ducks, swans and some other animals there. In addition Serpantine still remains the place where defferent demonstrations take place.
It goes without saying that there are also many other amazing parks in London which are worth visiting, such as: St. James Park in Central London, Regent’s Park (North London), Greenwich (South London).
