a). It’s time to speak about the place we live. You were given to write a composition about Kazakhstan. Let’s listen to some of them.
Puipil1: I live in Kazakhstan. Our country is very large. It is situated in Asia. Kazakhstan borders China, Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Kirgizia and Turkmenistan. The capital of it is Astana. It is a very modern and beautiful city. The population of the country is 16 million. People of about 100 nationalities live on Kazak land as a great friendly family. They work much to make it richer and nicer. Industry and agriculture is developed in Kazakhstan. The country is rich in mineral resources such as copper, oil, natural gas, gold, iron, nickel, silver and zinc. Agriculture takes a very important sector in the national economy. The people grow wheat, millet, corn and cotton. Kazakhstan is the country of wide steppes and high mountains, long rivers and deep lakes. It is the country of friendly and hospitable people who want to live in peace. I was born in Kazakhstan. I am a citizen of Kazakhstan. I love my Motherland and I am proud of it. (Pupils’ compositions are collected for checking).
b). Listening. Some of you were given individual tasks. Now we are going to listen to the information about the national flag. Listen and be ready to discuss the following questions:
1). A national flag is an expression of human hopes and ideals, isn’t it?

The state flag of Kazakhstan
As an independent and sovereign state Kazakhstan has got its own national flag, state coat of arms/emblem, and anthem. A national flag is an expression of human hopes and ideals. Behind it is the history of the country it represents, the past and the present of the folks and very often their future too. The state flag of our country is blue. In the center of it we see a golden sun and a flying eagle. There is a stripe of the national ornament along the flagstaff. The blue colour of the flag reflects such human qualities as honesty, faithfulness and hope. The golden sun, bathing in its rays is the symbol of quietness and wealth. The steppe eagle shows generosity and sharp-sightedness, good intentions of the peoples of Kazakhstan. The creator of the state flag of our Republic is Shaken Niyazbekov, the artist.
c). Listen to the information about the national Coat of Arms/emblem. Be ready to answer the following questions:

Kazakhstan, officially the Republic of Kazakhstan, is a transcontinental country in Central Asia and Europe. The ninth largest country in the world by land area, it is also the world's largest landlocked country; its territory of 2, 727, 300 square kilometres (1, 053, 000 sq mi) is larger than Western Europe. [6][7] It is neighbored clockwise from the north by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and also borders on a significant part of the Caspian Sea.

Although Kazakhstan does not share a border with Mongolia, its most easterly point is only 38 kilometres (24 mi) from Mongolia's western tip. The terrain of Kazakhstan ranges from flatlands, steppes, taigas, rock-canyons, hills, deltas, and snow-capped mountains to deserts. With 16. 6 million people (2011 estimate).

Kazakhstan has the 62nd largest population in the world, though its population density is less than 6 people per square kilometre (15 per sq. mi. ). The capital was moved in 1998 from Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city, to Astana.

For most of its history, the territory of modern-day Kazakhstan has been inhabited by nomadic tribes. By the 16th century, the Kazakhs emerged as a distinct group, divided into three Jüz.

Agriculture accounted for 10. 3% of Kazakhstan's GDP in 2005. Grain (Kazakhstan is the seventh-largest producer in the worldand livestock are the most important agricultural commodities. Agricultural land occupies more than 846, 000 square kilometres (327, 000 sq mi). The available agricultural land consists of 205, 000 square kilometres (79, 000 sq mi) of arable land and 611, 000 square kilometres (236, 000 sq mi) of pasture and hay land.

The Republic of Kazakhstan is situated in the Central Asia. The area of Kazakhstan is 2753000 square kilometres. Its population is about 16 million. The population lives mostly in towns and cities and large villages. The largest cities are Almaty, Karaganda, Shimkent, Pavlodar and Astana. Astana is the capital of the Republic. Astana is situated in the central part of the country.

Kazakh is the official language of the country, but it is not the only language which people speak in the country. Russian and other languages are spoken here too.

Kazakhstan borders China, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kirgizia. There is a long border coast line on the Caspian Sea in the Southwest.

There are a few rivers and lakes in Kazakhstan. The four rivers are the main resources of water in the country. They are Irtish, in the east, Syr-Darya in the southwest, Illi in the southeast and Ural in the northwest of the country. The largest lakes are Balhash, Zaisan, Ala-Kol and Tengis. The flora and fauna of the country are different. They depend on the climate of the area. They are richer in the south and poorer in the north.

Kazakhstan has well-developed heavy industry in many cities and towns, As the result of the development of heavy industry the country suffers serious environmental problems. Agriculture takes a very important sector in the national economy. The people of the country grow wheat, millet, corn and cotton.

As a sovereign state Kazakhstan has its own national flag and anthem and national traditions and holidays. The national flag of the country consists of a light blue field at the centre of which there is yellow sun framed by the wings of a flying eagle, also in yellow, with a vertical stripe of national ornamentations near the hoist.

There is a star on the top and the inscription “Kazakhstan” below. The State Emblem is made in gold and blue colours.)

-The landscape of Kazakhstan is a diverse one. It is bordered on the south, southwest and east by the Tien Shan, Tarbagatai and Altai mountains. In the steppes of Sary Arka the Balkhash lake is located. The water is salty. The lakes of Alakol, Tengis and Zaisan are remarkable. In the north lakes are lost among the pine forests of Kokshetau. Welcome to the land of Kazakhstan.

The climate of the country is strongly continental. It is cold in winter and hot in summer.

Rain usually falls in spring and in autumn. Snow falls in all areas but not at the same time. In the south snow falls in October or November, in the north it falls as a rule in September or October. Sudden cold winds and snow falls in winter often cause troubles for people. In spring green grass and flowers of different colors cover flat lands and hills.

-In Kazakhstan there are many typical animals. For example: Snow leopard, Falcon- Baloban, Koulan. In Kazakhstan people say this leopard as the strongest animal. The beautiful wild cat is a rock climber. Its favourite habitat is on the mountain peaks of the Tien Shan.

Since ancient times Kazakhs have used falcon- balobans as hunting birds. Berkutshi –professional hunters and trained them for hunting.

Koulan is strong and light-footed. They surprised people with their grace and beauty.

Children, people say that animals are used for experiment. I don’t quite agree with them. We must protect them. Why should we kill them for that purpose?
