Football is one of the world's most popular games. It is played in nearly every country, by everyone from kids in vacant lots and back streets to professional players in giant stadiums.

Volleyball is a team sport. It has six players on each team. The point of the game is to keep the ball in the air. The ball can be played with any part of the body, with a maximum of three strokes a team.

Skiing is a recreational activity and competitive sport in which the participant uses skis to glide on snow.

Basketball is played on a court with a large orange ball. There are five players on each team. Each team moves the ball across the court by bouncing.

Tennis is the kind of sport. Tennis is a very beautiful game. It is played with a small ball and rackets on a level court.

Swimming is enjoyed by a great many people, firstly because it is a recreational sport and secondly because it keep one fit.

I’ll give the 2 picture in the 2 groups. You should be contract the picture. The names in your group. 1 st group – footballer 2 nd group – tennis player

Read the proverb and choose Russian equivalent.

My name is Nikita. I am a sport lover. Everybody knows that sport is an important part of healthy lifestyle. We have lessons of physical education at school. Sport is one of my favourite types of pastime. I like to swim and I often go to the nearest swimming - pool. My younger brother is keen on sport. His favourite sport is tennis and he is really good at it. Besides doing sports, I like watching different games on TV. Every winter, I watch figure skating, skiing and hockey championships. In summer I enjoy watching football and rowing. Besides active games, there are also some other types of games which also refer to sports, among them chess, badminton, billiards, bowling and others. When I have free time I play these games with my friends. I don’t think there are any types of sport which I don’t like.

The theme of the lesson: My favourite sport.

The aim: to teach to speak about different kinds of sport.

The objectives:

Educational: to introduce the new vocabulary; to revise the grammar material: using the verb can; to practice reading the text for the information.

Many people like sport . But a great number of people don’t go in for sports. Are you good or against sport? Let’s divide in two groups. The 1st group will think and tell us about good sides of sport, another one – about bad sides of sport.

Sport is good because

It makes me strong and fast

It helps me to keep fit

It builds character

It teachers me to win and to lose

It’s very good for my heart

Sport helps people to stay in good shape, helps to support health and prevents from illness.

Sport is bad because

It’s not very useful.

It takes a lot of energy and time.

We have no time to walk with friends

It needs to work very hard.

We can break legs and arms.

- So good sides more than bad sides.

— It’s time to find out what your favourite sport is. First we shall complete the story from your Workbooks, page 71, exercise 6. Now it’s your turn to tell us about your favourite sport. Work in groups of three, follow the plan on the blackboard and tell your friend what sport you are fond of and why.

Для проверки данного упражнения 3—5 учеников зачитывают истории. Затем учитель обращает внимание учеников на план рассказа по теме «Мой любимый вид спорта

3. Are you good at it?

4. Do you prefer to take part in the competitions or to watch the competition?

5. Why do you like this kind of sport?

My favourite sport is basketball. It is very exciting both to watch and to play this kind of sport. It is quite easy to learn how to play it, because there are not many rules. Besides, this sport is popular both among boys and girls. I can say that I’m quite good at it. Our coach is quite strict but he teaches us very well. Anyway, sport is necessary for those who want to be fit and good-looking. I’m sure it is very important for everybody to be sporty.
