Tatiana’s Day
Every year on 25th January, students, teachers and professors celebrate Tatiana’s Day. This holiday celebrates Saint Tatiana, the patron saint of students. Universities all over Russia celebrate it with various events. In many schools, former students come to talk to the school children about their university studies. The best students receive awards and in some cities, such as Nizhniy Novgorod, citizens choose the best Tatiana from all the students of the city. Some communities have begun using the day to put on plays and performances for families and neighbours in their area. In the evening, people dance in the street or let off fireworks.
Russians believe the patron saint was named after Count Ivan Shuvalov’s mother, Tatiana. On 25th January 1755, Count Ivan and Empress Elizabeth agreed to build the first Russian university in Moscow. Tatiana’s name day also happened to be 25th January, so because of this, the tradition began. For over 250 years this celebration has taken place around Russia.

Каждый год 25 января студенты, учителя и профессора отмечают Татьянин день. Этот праздник в честь Святой Татьяной, покровительницы студентов. Университеты по всей России отмечают его различными мероприятиями. Во многих школах бывшие студенты приходят поговорить со школьниками о своих университетских занятиях. Лучшие студенты получают награды, а в некоторых городах, таких как Нижний Новгород, граждане выбирают лучшую Татьяну из всех студентов города. Некоторые общины начали использовать этот день для постановки спектаклей и представлений для семей и соседей в своих районах. По вечерам люди танцуют на улице или выпускают фейерверки.

I like New Year’s Eve, it is my favourite holiday. The 1st of January is a winter holiday and now it is the first day of the New Year. Peter the First changed the Russian calendar in 1699. He made the 31st of December, 1699 the last day of the year. The first of January 1700 became New Year’s Day.
The 1st of January is in the middle of winter. The weather is usually fine and there is a lot of snow everywhere. As the 1st of January is a holiday I don’t go to school and my parents don’t go to work. We usually have got a very interesting New Year’s party at school. We have got it on the 28th or 29th of December. Our family prepares for this holiday beforehand. My father buys and brings home a beautiful New Year’s tree at the end of December. Our family has a tradition to buy it. I like to decorate the New Year’s tree with toys, little coloured lights, sweets and a beautiful star on the top. My mother and grandmother prepare our holiday dinner. All the members of our family clean the flat before this nice holiday and then each of us tries to dress well.
New Year’s Eve is always connected with our new hopes and dreams. It is a pleasant moment to get presents. I usually get many nice useful things from my parents, relatives and friends. My parents put their presents under the New Year’s tree.

1 января — середина зимы. Погода обычно хорошая и снега много повсюду. Поскольку 1 января — праздник, я не иду в школу, а мои родители не идут на работу. Обычно мы устраиваем в школе очень интересную новогоднюю вечеринку. Мы проводим ее 28 или 29 декабря. Наша семья готовится к этому празднику заранее. Мой отец покупает и приносит домой прекрасную новогоднюю ёлку в конце декабря. У нашей семьи есть традиция покупать ее. Я люблю украшать новогоднюю ёлку игрушками, цветными лампочками, конфетами и красивой звездой сверху. Мои мама и бабушка готовят праздничный ужин. Все члены нашей семьи убирают квартиру перед этим приятным праздником и каждый из нас старается принарядиться.
Новогодняя ночь всегда связана с нашими новыми надеждами и мечтами. Это приятный момент для получения подарков. Я обычно получаю много полезных подарков от моих родителей, родственников и друзей. Мои родители кладут свои подарки под новогоднюю елку.

CHRISTMAS IN THE UK
The 25th of December' is Christmas Day. It's a happy holiday for many people in the UK .
Some weeks before Christmas English people are busy People want to buy presents for their family and friends.
Every year there is a very big Christmas tree in the centre of London, in Trafalgar Square. This is a present from the people of Norway to the people of Great Britain. They send it to Londoners every year and Londoners decorate the Christmas tree.
In the evening before Christmas people like to come toTrafalgar Square to look at the tree. On Christmas Eve the streets in London are decorated, too.
On Christmas Eve people put their presents under the tree. When children go to bed, they put their stockings near their beds.
At night Santa Clause comes. He has got a big bag of presents for children. He puts the presents in the children's stockings.

Knowledge Day is the celebration that takes place on first day of September in Russia and it has been a tradition since 1984 year. This day every pupil and student meets the beginning of a new academic year. They go to celebratory assembly, watch concert and listen to wishes of headmaster or principal, teachers and sometimes parents. Students and pupils also present flowers to their teachers and then go to their first lesson (usually registration period). Everyone feels happiness and enthusiasm about this celebration, because it is a new academic year with mane possibilities and opportunities.
День Знаний - это праздник, который отмечается первого сентября в России, он стал традицией с 1984 года. В этот день каждый студент и ученик встречает начало нового учебного года. Они идут на торжественную линейку, смотрят концерт и слушают пожелания директора или ректора, учителей и иногда родителей. Студенты и ученики также дарят цветы своим учителям, а затем идут на первый урок (обычно классный час). Каждый чувствует счастье и энтузиазм в связи с этим праздником, потому что это новый учебный год со многими возможностями и горизонтами.
Student's Day is one of the most popular celebrations with young people in Russia, as it marks the end of winter exams. It takes place on 25th January and has been a tradition since 1755 when the Moscow University was established. On this day students and professors exchange gifts, awards are given to outstanding students and at the Lomonosov monument a cup which symbolises knowledge is lit. There are also musical performances, comic sketches and a magnificent fireworks display in the evening.
Student's Day is loved by everyone but it is especially popular with young people as it allows them to relax and forget about their exams for a day.
День студента является одним из самых популярных праздников среди молодежи в России, так как он отмечает конец зимних экзаменов. Он проводится 25 января и является традицией с 1755 года, когда был создан Московский университет. В этот день студенты и преподаватели обмениваются подарками, награды вручаются выдающимся студентам и у памятника Ломоносову горит символичная чаша знаний. Проводятся также музыкальные спектакли и великолепный фейерверк в вечернее время.
День студента любят все, но особенно популярен среди молодых людей, поскольку он позволяет им расслабиться и забыть о своих экзаменах.
