Цели: воспитывать интерес к истории родного города и его градообразующего предприятия; развивать умения задавать вопросы по тексту.
1. What does an opinion essay consist of and what style is normally used? Read the theory to find out. — Из чего состоит эссе с выражением мнения и какой стиль обычно используется при его написании? Прочитайте теорию, чтобы выяснить это.
When writing an opinion essay, we present our personal opinion on a particular topic supported by reasons and/or examples. This type of essay is written in a formal style. We use formal linkers, impersonal tone and passive structures. We should avoid colloquial expressions, short forms and personal examples.
An opinion essay consists of:
- an introduction in which we introduce the topic and clearly state our opinion;
- a main body consisting of three paragraphs. In the first two paragraphs we present our viewpoints supported by reasons and examples. In the third paragraph we present the opposing viewpoint. We connect our points with appropriate linking words. We start each main body paragraph with a topic sentence;
- a conclusion in which we restate our opinion in different words.

An opinion essay presents our personal opinion with reasons and examples to support it. We also present the opposing viewpoint. An opinion essay should be written in a formal style. We should write an introduction stating our position; three paragraphs of the main body with our opinion supported by reasons and examples and an opposite opinion; a conclusion restating our opinion in different words.

If you are a typical teenager today, you use your MP3 player on the way to school, you text your friends all day and then surf the Net, send emails, instant messages or play on your games console in the evenings. In my opinion , teenagers are completely hooked on technology and I believe this has a positive effect on their lives.
To start with , using the gadgets and devices that are available because of new technology makes life more enjoyable. For example , MP3 players make travelling more entertaining. In addition , media devices such as mobile phones and laptops allow access to information and entertainment and make communication easier and faster.
Secondly , technology is a valuable resource that has allowed teens to learn new skills. For instance, many teenagers today are able to multi-task and do research using the Internet. Furthermore, they have learnt keyboard and computer skills that will help them at school and later in their working lives.
On the other hand , there are those who believe that technology has had a negative effect on today’s teenagers. They say that teens become distracted and waste their time with their gadgets instead of concentrating on more important things such as schoolwork. As a result , teens become antisocial as they prefer to communicate digitally instead of face-to-face.
In conclusion , teenagers’ use of gadgets and devices enriches their daily experiences in many ways. As technology advances, I think teenagers will be better prepared for the future.
Для начала, использование гаджетов и устройств, которые доступны благодаря новым технологиям, делает жизнь более приятной. Например, МР3-плееры делают дорогу более веселой. Они говорят, что подростки отвлекаются и тратят свое время на свои гаджеты вместо того, чтобы сосредоточиться на более важных вещах, таких как учеба. В результате подростки становятся антисоциальными, поскольку предпочитают общаться в цифровом формате, а не лицом к лицу.
В заключение следует отметить, что использование подростками гаджетов и устройств во многих отношениях обогащает их повседневный опыт. По мере развития технологий, думаю, подростки будут лучше подготовлены к будущему.

Цель: организовать деятельность учащихся по изучению правил написания эссе-мнение, совершенствование навыков письма.
Образовательные: ознакомить с правилами написания эссе-мнение, закрепить посредством упражнений, научить применять полученные знания на практике.
Воспитательные: научить работать самостоятельно над новым материалом, воспитывать усидчивость и трудолюбие, прививать культуру письменной речи.
Развивающие: развивать воображение, мышление и память.
Ход урока
Т : Good morning, children. I am glad to see you. How are you today?
Children, please look at the blackboard and try to guess the topic of our today’s lesson ( На доске – изображение пера и бумаги , пишущего человека , размышляющего над чем - то )
P1: I think the topic of the lesson is writing a letter or an essay.
T: You are right. To be more exact it is an essay, an opinion-essay. And now I am sure that you will be able to determine the aim of our lesson.
P2: I think we will learn to write an opinion essay.
T: Yes, as you see we have a lot to do at the lesson so let’s get down to work at once.

Three friends were going to summer camp where they planned to spend their best holiday. They traveled by train and enjoyed each others company. They even didn't notice how passenger next to them disappeared a few hours ago. Then two more people also went in another carriage and hadn't return by midnight. (Три подруги собирались в летний лагерь в котором они планировали провести свой лучший отдых. Они ехали на поезде и наслаждались компанией друг друга. The light in the carriage was turned off. Suddenly the girls heard loud scream and it made them terrified. They quickly run to the end of carriage to call conductor. While they were running they realized, that nobody was there. They were scared to death and didn't know what to do. They still heard the scream. One of the friends decided to go to next carriage no matter what they would see there. But the door was closed and their attempts to open it were not successful. They are trapped. A few minutes later they felt a push. Something bad happened. (Свет в вагоне был выключен. Внезапно, девочки услышали громкий крик, и это повергло их в ужас. Next morning one of the girl woke up in in a cold sweat. Nightmares tortured her for several nights in a row. She was relief again that it was just a dream, nightmare. It was late afternoon when they arrived and they were the only visitors. 'Ooh, it's a bit scary in here!' Ann said as they were walking slowly through the cold, dark rooms of exhibits. 'Don't be silly,' Tim replied.
Suddenly, Tim noticed an interesting exhibit which was a model of a man wearing a very old costume. He stood next to him and Ann took a photo of them with her digital camera, but then when she looked at the screen she couldn't believe her eyes! Tim was standing alone in the photo - the man wasn't next to him! Then, they looked up and saw that the model wasn't in the room any more! It had disappeared!
Ann and Tim ran quickly back to the reception desk. They were terrified! They told the lady there their story. 'Ah-ha! That wasn't a model, that was Henry, the museum ghost,' she said, smiling. Tim looked at Ann. She was completely white!

MY FAVORITE MOVIE
I like movies very much, especially fantasy. My favorite movie is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The movie came out in 2001, but it is still very good. Of course, I have seen all the Harry Potter movies, but the first one is special for me.
The movie is set in modern England and in a fictional place called Hogwarts. The story is a mixture of real-life drama and fantasy. The main character of the movie is a ten-year-old orphan Harry. His parents died when he was a baby, and now he lives with his foster parents and his stepbrother who do not like him. Although Harry has a family, he is a very lonely boy.
What I like about this movie is how drastically Harry’s life changed one day. On his eleventh birthday he was invited to study at Hogwarts, the magic school that, as it turned out, his parents attended. He started learning how to use magic and fly on a broomstick. He found good friends and a new home. At the beginning of the movie, Harry is just an ordinary boy. At the end of the movie, he is a hero and one of the most promising young wizards in Hogwarts.
In the following movies, Harry’s story continues, but I like the first one the most. For me, it is not just a story about magic, wands, spells, it is a story about ordinary people and friendship. Yes, Harry, Ron, and Hermione can cast spells, but do not seem to be some sort of mysterious creatures. For us, they are just normal people. They speak and act like any kids of their age. I like Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone because it is the beginning of their story. The storylines of the main characters develop as they grow up in the other movies, but it is so nice to see them at the beginning of their journey.
