Britain in my garden
You`d have to be living on Mars not to know how beautiful the English garden is! It is a real work of art. They create a real masterpiece by planting thistles, fennel and burdock. And then contemplating them they can explain: " Have a look! Aren`t they beautiful!" England itself is like a beautiful garden, so, just imagine they disappear…
Gardening as the national pastime was started by foreigners but become the sort of love at the first sight. In the eighteenth century parks and gardens become a favourite subject for English philosophers, artists and writers. Naturalness and closeness to nature, free growth of all plants were the principles of English gardening. At the Victorian period the famous English flowerbeds came into fashion.
The love for the national countryside is a trait which the English possess more than any other nation. The famous English lawns are also the subject of national pride. It is the devotion to traditions, the sign of stability.
I live in the countryside. Since my childhood I`ve dreamt of building a house with a garden that melts gently into the surrounding hill. Now my dream is coming true. I live in a nice house built with my own hands and my great love is my lawn and trees. I think they have some magical properties because provide wonderful inspiration on my family and my guests. The evergreen grass is smooth like a real carpet. The trees not only give us shade, they call to create something. My garden is a place where I can experiment. I do it with plants, trying to find new combinations.
This year we`ve planted roses and its delicate smell fills my soul with love and beauty. Somebody said that beauty will save the world. May be the British gardens will do it?
I live in Belgorod region. The climate is mild here. My village is big and nice. Everything is good, especially my sweet home! There is a beautiful garden near my house. Our garden is old and wonderful. Every tree has its own history in the garden.
Magnificent cherries grow in it. They yield sweet and large fruits. My grandfather planted these trees fifteen years ago.
In 1968 my grandparents built our house and they planted some little apple-trees. Now these apple-trees are huge and strong. And they will be strong no matter what. From the distance I can smell the fragrance of our red and yellow apples.
There are the Hungarian plums to the right of the apple-trees. The plums are juicy and sweet. My father had planted these trees before I was born.

Most English people love gardens above all, and this is probably one reason why so many people prefer to live in houses rather than in flats.
In the suburbs you can see row after row of ordinary small houses. And each house is surrounded by lots of flowers.
Many people who have no gardens of their own have patches of land. They spend much leisure time working among their flowers, trees and vegetables.
The British take part in numerous flower-shows and vegetable shows with very good prizes. Such shows are very popular in Britain. To many gardeners the process of growing the plants and taking care of them seems more important than the pleasure of looking at the flowers or the prospect of eating vegetables. In many places a competitive gardener’s desire is to grow the biggest cabbages or leeks or carrots.
So this is the most favourite hobby of the British people.

I would like to tell about Central park. This big and beautiful park is located in the centre of the city. There are always a lot of people in this popular place. There are lovely sunlit lawns and quiet spots hidden in the shade of trees. Right in the middle of the park there is a big lake with crystal clear water. Swans, ducks and other water birds live there.
There are benches along the park’s paths. There are also a few cafes and other eateries where visitors can relax enjoying a cup ofcoffee. Little guests will love to spend time at a small playground. Bicycle lanes run around the park.
In summer this park becomes a very lively place. Some people come to picnic here. Others just sit on soft grass while reading an interesting book or resting. During hot days people come here to lie in the sun. For those who prefer active sports, there is a sports ground to play volleyball and other sport games.
In winter this park becomes especially fascinating. It is always nice to walk along quiet paths and listen to birds’ singing. Dog owners also come here to walk their pets.
