IELTS часто ставит перед нами философские вопросы, особенно в Writing Task 2. Вот один из них: можно ли за деньги купить счастье? Такая тема была замечена на экзаменах IELTS в августе 2017 года. Этот спорный вопрос я рассмотрел с разных сторон и написал эссе. Почитайте – вдруг что-то такое попадется и вам.

Тема эссе Writing Task 2 (была на официальных экзаменах IELTS в августе 2017 года):
Some people think that money can buy all the happiness in life. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give your opinion and include relevant examples to support your answer.
План эссе:
Introduction – перефразируем тему и покажем структуру эссе
Essay body 1 –
Topic sentence: Те, кто может быть согласен с тем, что счастье можно купить за деньги.
Examples:
(1) для таких людей обычно счастье в материальных благах
(2) накопленные деньги или постоянный доход придают уверенности в завтрашнем дне, а значит спокойную и счастливую жизнь
Essay body 2 –
Topic sentence: Те, кто не согласен.
Examples:
(1) для таких людей счастье означает не наличие материальных благ, а отношения, которые купить нельзя – семья и друзья
(2) такие люди также считают, что здоровье нельзя купить за деньги
Conclusion –
На деньги нужно смотреть как на средство достичь счастья, и их наличие может сделать жизнь довольно комфортной, но купить отношения между людьми деньги вряд ли могут. Поэтому все счастье в жизни на деньги купить нельзя. (Конечно, это только мое мнение, и вы можете использовать свое.)

There is a common opinion shared by certain people that money can guarantee happiness in life. However, before providing my own perspective on this phenomenon, it is necessary to consider the meaning of happiness for various people and whether money could help to achieve it.
On the one hand, those who think that money is the primary instrument for being happy have their own reasons for this. Generally speaking, these people consider happiness as abundance in the material sense of the word, which makes life prosperous and comfortable. For instance, constant accumulation of money in the form of saving it and having a steady income naturally raises confidence in the future and thus means wealth, stability, and, as a result, a happy life.
Conversely, a large category of people assert that a true happiness is beyond money that can hardly buy everything in life. This could be exemplified by the fact that such people find happiness in relationships and interaction with family or friends rather than in enjoying the material side of their lives. In addition, this viewpoint places a substantial emphasis on the idea that money cannot buy health, and health is considered as one of the major elements of happiness.
To sum up the above considerations, I would say that money should be seen as an instrument of achieving only some of the facets of happiness, such as comfortable life and the ability to afford material things. However, money can hardly help people have genuine human relations, families or true friends, and this is why I think that money cannot buy all the happiness in life.

What is money for?
Nowadays, money is universal means of payment. It is difficult to imagine our today’s life without it. We need money to buy living essentials, such as clothes and food products.
Well-off people buy various luxuries. They have more money, so they can afford more. With the money we can buy not only material things, but can also pay for services and knowledge.
Types of money
Perhaps, the most prevalent type of money is paper money, or banknotes. Every banknote has its own nominal value and is accepted everywhere on the territory of a certain country.
With the development of technologies plastic cards become more and more popular. They allow you to pay for things without cash. Such cards as Visa and MasterCard are even accepted abroad. This is a very convenient way of payment as money is simply transferred from one account to another by the bank.
Can Money Buy Happiness?
Money has always been a characteristic of wealth. People have always tried to earn as much money as possible. The explanation to this is quite simple. The more money a person has, the more he or she can afford to buy.
People often think that money equals happiness. However, it is not always like that. Happiness is a complicated concept which depends on things that surround the person. These things can be both material and spiritual. For example, love, health and care can't be bought. A lot of examples prove that. Truly rich people still face serious illnesses. Others feel very lonely despite millions of people around them.
Для чего нужны деньги
Сегодня деньги являются универсальным средством оплаты. Трудно представить повседневную жизнь без них. Деньги нужны нам для того, чтобы покупать предметы первой необходимости, такие как одежда и продукты.
Состоятельные люди покупают предметы роскоши. У них больше денег, поэтому они могут больше себе позволить. Деньги нужны нам не только для того, чтобы покупать материальные вещи, но и платить за услуги и знания.
Пожалуй, самый распространенный вид денег – это бумажные деньги, или банкноты. На каждой банкноте обозначена ее номинальная стоимость. Такие деньги принимаются повсеместно на территории определенной страны.
С развитием технологий пластиковые карты становятся все более популярными. Они позволяют производить расчет без наличных денег. Такие карты, как Visaи MasterCard, принимаются за границей. Это очень удобный способ оплаты, так как деньги просто переводятся банком с одного счета на другой.
Можно ли купить счастье?
Деньги всегда были показателем состоятельности. Люди всегда пытались заработать как можно больше денег. Этому есть простое объяснение. Чем больше у человека денег, тем больше он может себе позволить.
Люди часто уравнивают деньги со счастьем. Счастье – это сложное понятие, которое зависит от того, что окружает человека. Сюда входят как материальные, так и духовные составляющие. Например, любовь, здоровье и заботу нельзя купить. Многие примеры служат тому доказательством. По-настоящему богатые люди также сталкиваются с серьезными заболеваниями. Другие чувствуют одиночество, несмотря на многочисленное окружение.
Money in my life
1. Money plays an important role in our life.
2. We can buy a lot of nice things with it.
3. Having money we can also travel to beautiful places and eat delicious food.
4. I don't have much money because I don't work.
5. My parents give me some pocket money.
6. I try to save money because sometimes I want to buy something special.
7. For example I buy presents for my parents and my friends.
8. If I want to buy more expensive things, for example a computer or a mobile, I have to ask my parents about it.
9. Sometimes they buy, sometimes they refuse to do it.
10. I am not angry with them because I understant that there are more important things to pay for.
11. My parents have to pay a lot of money for the flat and food.
12. We also try to save money for summer holidays.
13. Money can buy a lot of things but there are things that money can't buy.

На Ивановской площади в Москве находится знаменитая Царь-пушка. Она установлена на лафете, а возле неё лежат ядра. Но, не думайте, этими ядрами и с этого лафета Царь-пушка стрелять не может, и не смогла бы никогда.
Царь-пушка – это вообще-то не пушка как таковая, а бомбарда. Бомбарды стреляли большими глыбами камней и предназначались для разбивания стен крепостей во время их осады. Царь-пушка также предназначалась для стрельбы камнями весом до 800кг. Чтобы зарядить подобную бомбарду требовались сутки, а чтобы выстрелить строили специальные стены для погашения отката.
Царь-пушка была отлита в 1586 году нашим мастером Чоховым Андреем. Её длина – 5.35м., диаметр ствола – 120см., калибр – 890мм., вес – 39.31т. (2400 пудов).
Так почему же пушку назвали Царь – пушкой.
Есть две версии. Первая – это из-за её больших размеров, вторая - из-за выгравированного изображения последнего царя из рода Рюриковичей - Фёдора Ивановича верхом на коне. Историки склоняются больше ко второй версии, т.к. существует пушка размерами и калибром больше нашей – турки отлили. Ivan square in Moscow is famous Tsar cannon. There are two points of view on money matters. Some people suppose that money makes people satisfied but others find money the evil.
On the one hand, money is really of a help to people. To start with, there are a lot of things that we can buy for money, for example different conveniences. They help us to make our life more comfortable. Secondly, what is really important is that only money can give us the feeling of independence. We create our future and if we want to live without problems we should have money. Finally, one of the best things that money can give us is power. When you have money you are in control.
On the other hand, money is only a symbol of wealth. To begin with, money is only paper, but it has been given too much importance and it has become people’s new God. In addition, money can spoil people. For instance, it’s not rare when rich people start using their money for evil purposes overusing their power and thinking that everything can be bought and everybody can be controlled. What is more, possessing big sums of money can cause lots of problems. For example, people around get envious, start doing something to get the piece of what you have and your life becomes more dangerous.
To sum up, money is really important for modern world nowadays and plays a great role, but thinking of it and earning it people should save their human face not giving money too much power.
