И надо же такому случиться: я оказался посреди снующих туда-сюда любителей шопинга, в самом центре блошиного рынка на Портобелло-роуд в Лондоне!

01. Выйдя из метро на станции Ноттинг Хилл, и пройдя всего каких-то 150 метров, я оказался на тихой улочке,

04.Надо сказать, что улица была когда-то проселочной дорогой, ведущей из деревни Кенсингтон-Грейвл-питс (теперь это Ноттинг Хилл) к ферме Портобелло, названной так в честь морского сражения при Пуэрто-Белло (отсюда и название) в Мексиканском заливе, в котором Британия нанесла поражение Испании в 1739 году.

06. А вот в чем! Здесь с конца 1940-х годов обосновался стихийный рынок где можно было купить все что угодно: От антиквариата и украшений до поношенной одежды и старой мебели. От полезного до бесполезного! Чего душа желает.

08. Большинство посетителей приходит чтобы посмотреть, и может быть чего-то купить. Скорее для красоты, для памяти.

09. В этом районе в 50-х гг. прошлого века осели многие представители британских колоний в Вест-Индии (Багамы, Барбадос, Ямайка, Британский Гондурас и другие некоторые острова Карибского бассейна). Прошло не так много времени и их потомки судя по всему живут неплохо! )

11. В некоторой части Портобелло-роуд, как и в былые времена, можно купить современную одежду, и даже продукты питания.

29. Каждый год в конце августа более миллиона гуляющих заполняют Портобелло-роуд и ближайшие улицы. Наступает время карнавала!

30. Впервые карнавал, тогда еще просто школьный праздник состоялся в 1966 году. Сейчас -это событие превратилось в пышный праздник, включающее в себя карибские представления с богато украшенными лодками на платформах, выступление рок-групп, маскарады в экстравагантных костюмах. Помните, я говорил, что в конце 50-х здесь селились выходцы из карибского бассейна? Вот, теперь это их праздник!

31. Пройдя вдоль и поперек по Портобелло-роуд, я признаться был немного разочарован. Ожидал большего разгула торговли. Впрочем, возможно все дело в пятнице. Говорят в субботу здесь царствует сам вихрь торговли.
