What do you think about when you hear the word “issue”? Firstly, you probably have a thought about routine problems that all people face from time to time. Furthermore, you may consider some global problems which have an effect on everyone’s life and the life of our planet in common. So what are the main issues of modern society?
If I think about global problems, the first thing that comes to my mind is worsening of ecological situation. It’s a complex issue which includes land, water and air pollution, as well as deforestation, extinction of flora and fauna species. One of the most urgent issues is also the process of global warming and climate changing. Nevertheless, all of them are caused by human beings and their activity, and are difficult to be solved.
Moreover, there is a big list of environmental issues which are caused by nature such as droughts, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes and others. They are also really dangerous and can lead to some ecological disasters.
Another one, but not less important, is the group of health problems. It includes AIDS and other infection diseases, cancer and so on. As for me the most wide-spread one is obesity. This issue is caused by change of lifestyle, especially lack of physical activity and rapidly growing popularity of fast food. The statistics shows that more and more children in the world suffer from this disease. It is also connected with one more global problem — the Internet that has a great impact on the way we live, making us less active, purposeless and antisocial.
Modern society is also full of social issues like homelessness and poverty, drunkenness, drug abuse and family violence. In spite of the fact that there is a mechanism of social help for poor or homeless people and a lot of services that are ready to help people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. These issues haven’t been solved yet and continue to destroy families and lives.
On my opinion, the biggest part of modern issues can only be solved by changing of human nature, our habits and way of thinking. All mankind has to unite to win this interminable struggle.

Если я думаю о глобальных проблемах, то первое, что приходит в голову — это ухудшение экологической ситуации. Это комплексная проблема, которая включает в себя загрязнение земли, воды и воздуха, также как и вырубку лесов, вымирание видов флоры и фауны. Одной из самых важных проблем также является процесс глобального потепления и изменения климата. Тем не менее, все они вызваны людьми и их деятельностью, и их сложно устранить.
Более того, есть целый ряд проблем окружающей среды, которые вызваны природой: засухи, наводнения, торнадо, землетрясения и другие. Они также опасны и могут привести к экологическим катастрофам.
Еще одной, но не менее важной, является группа проблем, связанных со здоровьем. Она включает в себя СПИД и другие инфекционные заболевания, например, рак. На мой взгляд, одной из самых распространенных является проблема ожирения. Она вызвана изменением образа жизни, особенно недостатком физической активности и быстрым ростом популярности фаст фуда. Статистика показывает, что все больше и больше детей в мире страдают от этой болезни. Она связана с еще одной глобальной проблемой — Интернетом, который сильно влияет на наш образ жизни, делая нас менее активными, бесцельными и антисоциальными.
В современном обществе также полно социальных проблем, таких как бездомность и бедность, алкоголизм, наркомания и насилие в семье. Несмотря на тот факт, что существует механизм социальной помощи бедным и бездомным людям, а также большое количество служб, готовых помочь людям в борьбе с алкогольной и наркотической зависимостью. Эти проблемы так и остались нерешенными и до сих пор продолжают разрушать семьи и жизни.
Я считаю, что большая часть современных проблем может быть решена посредством изменения человеческой природы, наших привычек и образа мышления. Все человечество должно объединиться, чтобы победить в этой извечной борьбе.

We live in the 21st century and humanity has made a great progress in technology, so I think that it is strange that we still have global problems, especially the ones that deal with social, economic and political issues. Global Problems of Humanity
Humanity has a lot of problems. Most of them are local and do not affect the global community but there are a few global issues. A global issue is an issue that affects every country in the world. People can clearly define them, however they are still not solved. One of the greatest challenges of our time is solving global problems.
The United Nations is the organization that defines these problems and takes measures to solve them. The United Nations is an example of cooperation of the world-leading countries. They want to make our world a better place.
So, what global issues do they solve? First, it is global warming. Our industrial activity causes a rise in the average temperature. It means that an average summer or winter day nowadays is warmer than it was a hundred years ago. Global warming is dangerous because it can cause ice melting. If glaciers melt, the sea level will rise, and most coastal cities and islands will be drowned.
Second, it is human impact on the environment. In some cities air pollution reached the point where it is dangerous for human health. Our plants, factories, cars produce a lot of CO2 and various pollutants.
Third, overpopulation. The population of our planet is 7.8 billion now, which is almost 8 times as much as it was two hundred years ago. It will keep growing, and the planet might just not be able to sustain that many inhabitants in the future. Overpopulation causes multiple problems including poverty. Did you know that 42 percent of people from Sub-Saharan Africa still live below the poverty line? The international poverty line is 1.9 dollars per day. People cannot fulfill their basic needs such as food, water and clothing.
These are the most discussed global problems nowadays. Their list might increase but all the problems are being worked on. Some countries decided to switch to alternative energy sources in the nearest future. Most countries at least recognize the problems.

У взрослых есть свои проблемы, несмотря на то, что они более опытные и умные. Алкоголь, наркотики, азартные игры – это их способы убежать от ответственности, повседневной жизни, решения проблем. Большинство преступлений происходят из-за алкоголя и наркотиков. Так много детей страдает от насилия их родителями, опьяненными алкоголем или наркотиками. Так много болезней существует только от употребления наркотиков и алкоголя. Так много смертей случается из-за этого, и никто не может снизить этот показатель на протяжении многих лет.
Я думаю, что мы, как современное общество должны прилагать больше усилий, чтобы удержать наших детей от этого пути, ведущим в никуда, только к смерти и боли. Никто не знает своей судьбы или будущего, но в наших силах бороться с распространением и употреблением наркотиков и алкоголя в обществе, особенно среди молодых людей. Нам нужны правильные власти, которые будут осознавать ответственность за народ и тяжесть этого бремени. Только вместе мы сможем открыть настоящее будущее для наших детей.
Society and its problems
As we live in a very modern society fully using the gifts of nature and technology it is not surprising, that we often observe different problems of people, who have lost the feeling of responsibility and humaneness. It concerns everybody, children and adults.
Children at schools no more play on the playgrounds, communicating with each other normally, help each other without waiting for something in response. They are playing virtual games, spending hours writing messages, watching movies and competing with each other on who has better clothes or cell phones. Moreover children had become more independent and self confident. It is good, that they know now their rights, but it is more than bad that they offend their parents, do not respect them and talk rudely to them.
Adults have their own problems, in spite of being more experienced and smart. Alcohol, drugs, gambling are their ways of escaping from responsibility, everyday life, resolving home problems. Most of crimes happen because of alcohol and drugs. So many children suffer from violence by their parents being drunk or drugged. So many illnesses exist just due to the usage of drugs and alcohol. There are so many deaths caused by this, and no one can reduce its rate for so many decades.
I think that we as modern humanity should take more pains to prevent our children from going this wrong way leading to nowhere, just death and pain. No one knows his destiny and future, but it is in our power to fight the distribution and usage of drugs and alcohol in the society, and especially among young people. We need the right authorities which will realize the responsibility for the people, and heaviness of this burden. Only together we can open the real future for our children.
