Once upon a time in a land far, far away an evil queen sat with her magic mirror in her hand. She was appalled when this mirror revealed to her that she was no longer the most beautiful in all the land, but that a young princess was instead.

In her rage, the evil queen ordered that the princess be led deep into the forest, and then be killed. However, the old woman assigned the grim task of leading the beautiful girl astray took pity upon her intended victim, and left her in the forest without killing her. In the forest the princess found shelter with seven "bogatrys"(warriors), and she lived there very happily. She had no idea that back in the castle the wicked queen's magic mirror had told her the secret of the girl's whereabouts, and that the queen had made plans to ensure that the princess would not once again escape her wrath.

One day the beautiful princess was approached by a seemingly harmless old woman who offered her a delicious red apple. The naive princess never suspected that it was the evil queen in disguise, and gladly took the apple, whereupon her first bite she fell into a deep, seemingly irreversible sleep.

All hope was not to be lost. Far away the great Prince Yelesei had heard of the fate befallen his love, and set out to break this spell which had cast her into such a deep sleep. He rode on his horse, inquiring the moon, the wind, and the sun, as to where his princess could be found. He finally found her sleeping body encased in a crystal tomb. Smashing the tomb with his sword, he broke the evil spell, and the princess awoke. They lived happily ever after.

The evil queen however, did not. She died of grief as soon as her mirror revealed to her that the princess would live happily ever after.

One day, a good King
and his beautiful Queen have a baby.
They are very happy.

"Let’s have a party," says the King.

The King and Queen invite their friends to the party.
They also invite seven good fairies.

Today is the party!
Everybody gives a present to the baby princess.
The fairies also give presents.
Their presents are very special.

"You will be beautiful," says the first fairy.

It’s a bad fairy.
She is very ugly.
Everybody is afraid of her.
The bad fairy is angry because
the King didn’t ask her to come to the party.

"I want to give the princess my present," says the bad fairy.
She points to the baby princess and she says.
"When she’s sixteen,
she’ll cut her finger on a spinning wheel and die!"

The bad fairy laughs and leaves.

Everybody is very sad.
But the seventh fairy can help.
"Don’t worry. Here’s my present.
The princess won’t die. She will sleep
for one hundred years," she says.
"Then a prince will kiss her
and she will wake up."

The King and Queen are afraid.
The King wants to hide all the spinning wheels.
He sends a messenger to the town.

"Hide your spinning wheels.
We must save the princess," says the messenger.

The princess is a young woman now.
She’s beautiful, clever and kind.
She can sing and dance.
She’s always happy.
But she’s also very curious.
Today is her birthday.
She’s sixteen.

The princess is walking in the palace.
She sees some stairs.
Suddenly, she hears a noise.
The princess is curious
and she goes up the stairs.

The stairs go up a tower.
There is a room at the top of the tower.
The princess opens the door.
She sees an ugly woman.
It’s the bad fairy!

"Hello. What are you doing?" asks the princess.
"I’m spinning.
Do you want to try?" says the bad fairy.
"Yes. I do," says the princess.

The princess sits down at the spinning wheel.
Suddenly, she cuts her finger
and she falls asleep!

The King and Queen find the princess.
They put her in her bed.
They remember the bad fairy’s words.
The King and Queen are crying.

"We mustn’t cry," says the King.
"Remember the seventh fairy’s present.
Our beautiful daughter won’t die.
She’s sleeping.
She will sleep for one hundred years."

Everybody in the kingdom is sad.
The men and women aren’t singing or dancing.
The children aren’t playing.
They want to see the princess again.
One day, the King goes to the good fairy.
He wants her help.

"I can’t wake up the princess," says the good fairy.
"But I can help you."

The good fairy goes to the top of a hill.
She looks at the kingdom
and she waves her magic wand.

Suddenly, everybody in the kingdom falls asleep.
The King and Queen fall asleep.
The men and the women fall asleep.
The children fall asleep.
The animals fall asleep.

The good fairy waves her magic wand again.
Suddenly, a forest grows around the kingdom.
The trees are very tall and they hide the kingdom.
For one hundred years, nobody goes there.

He sees the forest.

"What’s that in the forest?" he asks a farmer.
"There is a kingdom in the forest.
Everybody in the kingdom is sleeping," says the farmer.

The farmer tells the prince the story about
the bad fairy and the beautiful princess.

"We call the princess Sleeping Beauty," says the farmer.
"One day, a prince will kiss her and she will wake up."

The prince is curious.
He wants to see Sleeping Beauty.

The prince goes into the forest.
He cuts the trees with his sword.
He cuts and cuts.
He’s very tired.
The good fairy is hiding in the forest.
She helps the prince.
She waves her magic wand
and the trees move.
Now the prince can find the kingdom.

The prince goes into the palace.
It’s very quiet!
The people and the animals are sleeping.

The prince is looking for Sleeping Beauty.
He sees some stairs.
He goes up the stairs
and he finds her in the tallest tower.

Sleeping Beauty is sleeping on her bed.
She’s very beautiful.
The prince falls in love with her!

The prince kisses Sleeping Beauty.

Sleeping Beauty , or Little Briar Rose, also titled in English as The Sleeping Beauty in the Woods, is a classic fairy tale which involves a beautiful princess, a sleeping enchantment, and a handsome prince. The tale was originally published by Charles Perrault. The version collected by the Brothers Grimm was an orally transmitted version of the original literary tale published by Perrault in Histoires ou contes du temps passé in 1697. This in turn was based on Sun, Moon, and Talia by Italian poet Giambattista Basile (published posthumously in 1634), which was in turn based on one or more folk tales. The earliest known version of the story is found in the narrative Perceforest, composed between 1330 and 1344.

The king and the queen had no children for a long time. And then one day, when the hope was completely lost, the queen gave birth to a daughter. On this occasion, they arranged a celebration, among the guests were seven good sorceresses.

They were seated in honorable places, gave them the best plates and a box containing a fork, a knife and a spoon made of pure gold. When all the guests were already at the table, the eighth sorceress came. She was not invited to the celebration, as they thought that she was no longer in this world. For her, the best plates were immediately brought, but she did not have the golden box.

Naturally, this very much offended the old sorceress. She murmured something unpleasant out loud. One sorceress heard this and hid in the children’s room. She decided to tell her last wish. The moment came when the fairies were supposed to give the newborn presents.

The fairies presented it with various gifts: beauty, intelligence, kind heart, good voice, the ability to dance and play on different instruments. However, the old witch wished the princess died when she pricked with a spindle. Everyone shuddered, but the last fairy promised that the princess would not die. She will make sure that the princess will sleep until the prince wakes her up. Her dream will last a hundred years.

The king ordered to remove all the spindles from the castle, but after a while the princess still pricked her finger and fell asleep. The good sorceress did so that everyone in the palace, including the king and the queen, fell asleep.

A hundred years later, the prince went hunting. He saw the old palace, and began to ask passers-by about him. One person told him a story about a sleeping princess. The heart in the prince’s chest caught fire, and he hurried to the gate of the old castle. When he entered the castle, he saw a lot of sleeping people. He entered the luxurious room and saw a sleeping princess on the bed. Gold seemed dim, compared with the beauty of the princess.

The prince knelt before the princess, and she woke up. The castle rustled and the rest of the inhabitants of the house woke up.

The bride and groom were invited to the dining room. They were served dishes of old cuisine, and musicians played songs of the past.

The fairy tale once again proves that good conquers evil, and love is able to resist any evil deeds.
