Cardiff Castle is one of the leading architectural attractions of Wales and is listed as historical heritage of international significance. The first Roman fort in Cardiff, was probably founded in the late 50's AD. Place the construction of the fort was selected from the possibility of controlling access to the sea. Archaeological excavations made during 1970 show that it was only one of four forts, each with different sizes and to perform its functions in controlling the area. Remains of Roman wall can be seen today.

After the Norman Conquest, at the site of an old Roman fort was built a new fortress. Former territory of the Roman fortress was surrounded by a huge stone wall. Outside, guard towers were built. Outer guard donjon was built by Robert Fitshemenom (Robert Fitzhamon), Norman Lord of Gloucester. Like many fortifications that time, initially it seems was made of wood. Later it was rebuilt in stone.

I would like to tell you about the British city of Cardiff.

Cardiff is a city in the south-west of the United Kingdom and the capital of Wales.

This city has existed for two thousand years, starting with the Romans and ending with the present, so its heritage is difficult to overestimate.

Cardiff is valued for its cultural life.

There are many residents who speak the ancient Welsh language.

Locals are very fond of concerts of symphony orchestras and often visit theaters and choral singing.

The population of Cardiff is about three hundred fifty thousand people.

Every year in this city the festivals "winter fairy tale", "Tafwyl", "Cardiff Coffee Festival" and many others take place.

Cardiff cannot be called a popular tourist destination, which is strange, because it is not only the main city of Wales, but also one of its key ports.

Since the XIX century, the city has been formed and continues to form a number of different industries: coal, steel, retail, media, science, real estate, etc.

The main attractions of Cardiff are Bute Park, St. Mary Street, Cardiff Bay and Mermaid Wharf.

Many famous people are closely associated with the city, ranging from historical figures such as Henry Morgan to later figures such as Roald Dahl, Ken Follett and Griff Rhys Jones.

I chose this city because it is famous for its rich history and wonderful Welsh atmosphere.

Cardiff is a beautiful city. It is situated in the south-east region of Wales. The population of the city is more than 300 000 people now.

Speaking of the history of Cardiff, it was a small town until the Industrial revolution in the 19 th century. In 1839, there was built a dock, which became known as Bute West Dock. Later, there was constructed another dock, which was called East dock. As a result, exports of coal and iron from Cardiff boomed.

Cardiff was developing very fast at that time. For example, in 1841, the railway reached Cardiff. In 1821, there appeared gas street lighting. After that, a covered market was built.

In the 20 th century population growth slowed in Cardiff. During the Second World War a lot of people were killed in Cardiff by German bombing. Large parts of Butetown were destroyed. Despite this, the city was rebuilt in 1945. Consequently, in 1955, Cardiff was made the capital of Wales.

At the beginning of the 21st century, Cardiff is a flourishing city. Attractions include the new Mermaid Quay, which is famous for its restaurants, the Oval Basin and the Atlantic Wharf Leisure Village.

Regarding cultural activities in Cardiff, there are a lot of things to do and places to see. First of all, there is a National Museum Cardiff, which is a museum and art gallery. There is also a Cardiff Castle, which is perfect for a family day out. As well as that, the Millennium Stadium should be very interesting to visit because it is home to Welsh rugby and rock concerts.

Nowadays, the city is clean, and there are lots of modern buildings. Nevertheless, a few decades ago, there was lots of heavy industry. People worked as coal miners. Therefore, it was rather dirty there and smelled terrible. The city has chanded a lot since then.

I believe, Cardiff is worth visiting if you want to see something new and have a good holiday next to the sea.
