I am sure every well-educated person should speak English, because it is the language of communication, business, science and culture.
English is now the most important and widespread language in the world. It is the state language in five countries: Great Britain, Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand. In many Asian and African countries people speak English besides their native one. People also speak English in Europe. English is spoken practically all over the world.
Russia has relations with many countries. Hundreds of joint enterprises have appeared in each city and small town in Russia. A lot of foreign delegations come to our country. Our businessmen, tourists go abroad. That is why it is very important to learn English.
Nowadays, a lot of people study foreign languages in every possible way. I think English is worth studying. There is a proverb "A new language — a new world"
Year by year the globe is getting smaller with the development of communication means and increase in transportation velocities. People of different countries and nations have to get along well with the progress in world trade and technology as well as with each other. "Knowledge is power" one of the great men said. Speaking a foreign language one can not only read the papers, magazines and original books by outstanding writers, but as well watch satellite TV programs, travel easily in the different parts of the world. Besides, understanding and speaking a foreign language or two became necessary while applying for a good and well-paid job.
Fortunately, I began learning English even before I could understand it. Now I know that it is a must for a XXI century professional no matter what job to choose. The world is getting smaller and international connections tighter. One can not do well without one of the common European languages.
I learn English because I want to read Kingsley Amis and James Joyce in their native language. I like Hemingway and Lewis Carroll, Besides, I like to travel. Speaking English, I shall have no troubles looking for a room or a meal. I like to talk and make friends with people from different countries.
Last autumn I became a member of the Student Реп-Pal Club and now I have much fun writing letters to my Swiss and American pen friends. I hope, some day we shall meet each other and have a good time.
There are also international friendship camps both in Russia and abroad where you can meet boys and girls from around the globe. They rarely can speak Russian, which is much more difficult to learn than English.
In a word, I understand that I have to learn English hard and in a proper way.

Я уверен, что каждый образованный человек должен говорить по-английски, потому что это язык общения, бизнеса, науки и культуры.
Английский язык сейчас — самый главный и самый распространенный язык в мире. Это государственный язык в пяти странах: Великобритании, Канаде, США, Австралии и Новой Зеландии. Во многих азиатских и африканских странах, кроме родного языка люди говорят и по-английски. Говорят по-английски и в Европе. Английский язык распространен практически во всем мире.
Россия поддерживает отношения со многими странами. Сотни совместных предприятий появились в каждом городе и городке России. Много иностранных делегаций приезжает в нашу страну. Наши бизнесмены, туристы едут за границу. Вот почему очень важно изучать английский язык.
К счастью, я начал изучать английский язык раньше, чем смог понять это. Теперь я знаю, что знание английского языка это необходимо для профессионала XXI столетия, независимо от того, какую работу выбираешь. Мир становится меньше и международные отношения теснее. Нельзя преуспеть без знания одного из основных европейских языков.
Я изучаю английский язык, потому что хочу прочитать Кингсли Амиса и Джеймса Джойса на их родном языке. Мне нравятся Хемингуэй и Льюис Кэрролл. Кроме того, мне нравится путешествовать. Умея говорить по-английски, я не буду иметь неприятности, при поиске комнаты или еды. Мне нравится общаться и дружить с людьми из различных стран.
Прошлой осенью я стал членом студенческого клуба друзей по переписке, и теперь я получаю удовольствие от переписки с моими швейцарскими и американскими друзьями. Я надеюсь, однажды мы встретим друг друга и хорошо проведем время.
Есть также международные лагеря дружбы и в России, и за границей, где вы можете встретить мальчиков и девочек со всего земного шара. Редко кто из них может говорить на русском языке, который является более трудным в изучении, чем английский язык.
Одним словом, я понимаю, что должен изучить английский язык интенсивно и должным образом.

Why do people learn foreign languages?
«Who does not know foreign languages does not know anything about his own."
But we still don't know for what we should learn it? Is it so important to know languages? Can we survive in our world if we speak only a mother tongue? So let us figure it out!
Firstly, such languages as English and German are main subjects. Secondly, foreign languages broaden our minds, people become more educated. Why is it important? Because we can explore the world themselves, we can travel abroad, find friends from all over the world and connected with them on the social network, through such contact we can expand our understanding of culture and customs of different people. If a person knows foreign languages, he can read great works in the original, listen to musical compositions and understand all the feelings that were putting in the songs. If we are interested in a career, a good salary, a decent standard of living, then the knowledge of languages is very useful in realizing these goals.
Can we survive in the world where we speak only native language? I think yes, we can, but what kind of life will this be? Tiresome, uninteresting, monotonous days, no major international projects, respectively no development. Are there another minuses in life without foreign tongues? Of course, yes. Every language has many words, which had gotten from another. One complements another, and our speech becomes diverse.
Nevertheless, some people believe that languages are a waste of time.
If you want to learn a foreign language, you need a good memory, logical thinking, but the main thing is to enjoy the learning process. It takes a lot of time and patience, and the result depends only on you. Besides, it is important to believe in yourself, remember your goal and not to give up.

Half of the world's scientific literature is in English. It is the language of computer technology.
To my mind English is worth studying. There is a proverb: "A new language is a new world". "Knowledge is a power", one great man said. Speaking a foreign language one can not only read the papers, magazines and original books by outstanding writers, but as well watch satellite programs, travel easily to different parts of the world. Besides, understanding and speaking a foreign language became necessary while applying for a good and well-paid job.

A lot of foreign delegations keep coming to our country, hundreds of joint ventures have appeared in every city of our country recently. Люди начали говорить много столетий назад, и с тех пор они говорили на различных языках. Каждый язык отражает душу, манеры и характер каждой национальности. Народы создавали свой собственный алфавит и правила, но они всегда хотели общаться друг с другом, понимать и знать больше друг о друге.
Языки помогают людям понимать друг друга лучше, они помогают им решать различные экономические и политические проблемы, которые стоят перед ними, и поэтому люди изучают иностранные языки.
