My favourite holiday is New Year. We celebrate this holiday on December 31 and January 1 . The whole family sits at the big dinner table with lots of delicious food. Traditional Russian New Year dishes are Olivie salad, “Herring Under the Fur Coat”, pickled vegetables and mushrooms, meat and potatoes or roast chicken.
While having dinner we usually watch New Year TV shows and then, at midnight, we say, “Goodbye, Old Year. Hello, New Year!”
Some people like to celebrate this holiday outdoors, so they go to central city squares where there is a large New Year tree. People sing songs, dance and watch fireworks.

I believe our country is a great place for organizing different festivals. We have beautiful nature during all four seasons, delicious cuisine, hospitable people and authorities ready to suport each cultural event. I suggest this fest will be very interesting and important for sharing our traditions and customs with other nations. This festival will take place in our capital. We need to invite some people - viewers. They will gather in our concert halls - theatres and philharmonics. The best time for it is summer, July or August. Guests will be able to observe the variety of different costumes, traditional songs and dances. Well, who guessed?

I’m going to talk about an important and ancient festival in my country, in Russia. It is called Maslenitsa and it’s celebrated in late winter, in February. Maslenitsa lasts one week. Its main tradition is the burning of the straw figure of the Winter. It symbolizes the end of cold long winter. We usually play games, ride horses, go sledding and enjoy Russian dances. We also visit relatives, eat and drink much in preparation for the Lent which starts the next day after this folk festival. Russian people make delicious pancakes all the week. Everybody has a great time.

Пусть сегодня СССР распался на десяток стран, но для них всех 9 мая- святой день. То, что нельзя забыть.
