There are many interesting hobbies. I like to listen to music, watch different movies, spend time with my friends. Reading is also my hobby, but I am not the person who can read day and night.

Still there are few books I am ready to read over and over again. These books were written by different authors in different time. I like “Dorian Grey’s portrait”, “Gathering Heights”, “Romeo and Juliette” and “Little Prince”. All these stories look to me so interesting, sad and very realistic. But my favorite literary hero is little prince.

I have read this book couple of years ago. My first impression was not positive about it. When I started to discuss this book with my friends I have understood the real meaning of it. This book and this character showed me that our world is much more interesting than we can see. Also sometimes we don’t pay attention to what is around us. We can look for something nice and beautiful for the whole life and don’t pay attention to flowers we see everyday, people close to us and so on. Little prince was so much in love with the rose that I could say it had been a real love.

Now I see how beautiful sunrises and sunsets, flowers and trees, all seasons. I think little prince has taught me and many other friends to appreciate everything we have.

I like many literary characters. Not all of them are positive. For example Dorian Grey was not a good person. But his life could become a good lesson to each of us. And love of Romeo and Juliet was so strong and pure that I hope one day I will meet my person as well.

Now I look for another good book. I always ask my friends to give me an advice but so far I can not find anything. I am sure there are many excellent books and talented writers and I will like reading even more.

Мне нравятся многие литературные персонажи. Конечно, не все они положительные. Например, Дориан Грей не был хорошим человеком. Но вся его история стала отличным уроком каждому из нас. А любовь Ромео и Джульетты была такой сильной и чистой, что я тоже надеюсь встретить свою судьбу однажды.

Сейчас я ищу очередную интересную книгу. Я постоянно спрашиваю своих друзей посоветовать мне что-нибудь достойное. Но пока что ничего не нашла. Уверена, что есть масса интересных произведений и талантливых авторов. Так что чтение мне нравится больше и больше.

Чтение книг давно признано одной из самых полезных привычек, которую прививают нам с самого детства. Но очевидно, что польза не во многих, но в хороших книгах. Читая такую впервые, мы испытываем такое же чувство, как при обретении нового друга. Прочитать старую книгу вновь — означает снова увидеть старого друга. Человек, дружащий с книгами, способен на многое. It’s impossible to be an educated person without good books. Most of the books are to be read just once, others can be read plenty of times. And each time you find something new and useful as you turn the same pages of your favourite books. I am fond of books about adventures and great people, detective stories and science fiction. I enjoy reading them when I have spare time.

But my favorite book of all times is a novel “Three comrades” written by a German writer Erich Maria Remarque. This book was recommended to me by my elder sister and I’m grateful to her for that advice. It was really worth reading.

“Three comrades” is a book about love and friendship of three common people (Robert, Otto and Gottfried) who lived in Germany between the two World wars. The main characters are real friends who struggle together with poverty and violence and they manage to preserve their dignity and humanity. The story of beautiful and tragic love between Robert and Pat is heart-breaking because the girl dies of tuberculosis.

I find the book very powerful and deeply moving. It teaches people to find the inner strength to live in a tough world. It often helps me when I find myself in a difficult situation and I need an answer to some question. It is my great friend and teacher.

As for me, I discovered the wonderful world of reading when I was 10. I had read several books before but the book I was presented for my tenth birthday changed my attitude to reading and I started doing it for pleasure. I still remember this story in all details and treat it as my favourite one.

The title of this book is “Five go to Smuggler’s Top” and it is written by Enid Blyton, a famous British writer who wrote series of adventure books for children. My favourite book belongs to one of the most well-known series “The famous five” and tells about the adventures of four children and their faithful dog.

The main characters of the book are siblings Julian, Dick and Ann and their cousin George who is actually a girl whose full name is Georgina. She is my favourite character of this book because of her extremely interesting personality and identity. She has a dog called Timmy who plays an important role in this story. The adventures of these children begin as soon as they arrive to live in Mr. Lenoir’s house. There they meet Mr. Lenoir’s son Sooty who quickly becomes their friend. The key point is that Timmy is not allowed to live in this house so the children have to keep him secretly in the tunnels beneath the house. Using these tunnels to walk Timmy they find out the mystery of smugglers and their criminal activity.

I find this book really fascinating. It keeps your attention from the first page and it’s difficult to predict what is going to happen next. It’s especially interesting to understand who is who and find out the criminals in the end. The children get into troubles constantly and you’re worried about them all the time. I recommend reading this book to all teenagers who are keen on such kind of literature. It is going to blow you away.

I like reading books. It is the significant part of my everyday life. I am a real bookworm. I have a big home library. There you can find works of different authors and genres.

I have many favourite books but the most favourite one is the book “The Count of Monte Cristo” written by French author Alexandre Dumas in 1844. It is an adventure novel and one of the most popular works of Alexandre Dumas.

The story is about young man Edmond Dantes who was arrested on his wedding day and imprisoned without trial. Before his arrest he was the first mate of the captain of the ship “Pharaon”. He loved a girl, whose name was Mercedes, and his feeling was mutual. However three men hated Edmond and decided to make him be framed up for treason. They could do that and Edmond was imprisoned. Fortunately, thanks to his fellow prisoner old Faria, Edmond managed to escape and could find the treasure. As rich and mysterious Count of Monte Cristo he was back to France. His aim was to avenge himself on those three men for destroying his life.

When I read this book for the first time, I completely agreed with all actions of Dantes. Then I was only 16 years old. However many years later I read this book one more time. And as an adult I would say that sometimes the revenge of Dantes was too severe. I changed my point of view concerning many problems raised in the book.

Nevertheless, I like the main character and sympathise him. I recommend this book to everyone.

My Favourite Character – Мой любимый персонаж

I would like to talk about my favorite literary character Eugene Onegin from the novel by the great writer and poet Alexander Pushkin.

The plot of “Eugene Onegin” is very simple and well known. Tatiana fell in love with Onegin immediately, but he was able to fall in love with her only after enormous upheavals that took place in his chilled heart.

But despite the fact they loved each other, they could not connect their fate. And the reason of this situation is not any external circumstances, but their own mistakes, and their inability to find the right walk of life.

The young gentleman Eugene Onegin is depicted by Pushkin as a man with a very complex and contradictory character. I think especially with these treats the character attracts the reader’s attention. But it is very difficult to determine the own attitude to the character.

Onegin is not a goodie, but not a baddie. It forces the reader actively, closer and deeper to understand the nature of the hero of the novel and the assessment of his actions.

To my mind, Onegin combines the best human qualities such as dignity and honor. His chilled soul does not evoke scorn at me.

He hated the high life and respected sincere and light people, but because of his character and the prevailing circumstances of life he could not open to these people and that was destroying him from inside.

I understand the state of mind of Eugene Onegin. Perhaps, that is why he is my favorite character.

Сюжет “Евгения Онегина” довольно прост и известен. Татьяна сразу же полюбила Онегина, но он сумел полюбить её лишь после глубоких потрясений, случившихся в его охлажденной душе.

Однако, несмотря на то, что они влюблены друг в друга, они не в силе соединить свою судьбу. И винить в этом надо не какие-то внешние обстоятельства, а их же собственные ошибки, их неумение найти верный жизненный путь.

Молодой помещик Евгений Онегин изображен Пушкиным как человек с противоречивым и очень сложным характером. Думаю, именно этими качествами герой привлекает к себе внимание читателя. Но определить свое отношение к персонажу очень сложно.

Онегин не является положительным героем, но и не отрицательным. Это заставляет читателя внимательнее, активнее и глубже разбираться в характере и в оценке действий героя.

На мой взгляд, Онегин сочетает в себе лучшие человеческие качества, такие как честь и достоинство. У меня не вызывает презрения его охлажденная душа.

Он ненавидел светскую жизнь и уважал искренних и светлых людей, но в силу своего характера и сложившихся обстоятельств не мог раскрыться этим людям, что и губило его изнутри.

My name is Christopher. I'm fourteen years old and I study at a state secondary school. From the early age I've been fond of reading. When I was only five, my mum read or told me fairy-tales before going to bed. When I grew older, I started reading books myself.

One of the recent books that I've read was "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain. Since then, my favourite fictional hero is Tom Sawyer. I admire the courage and inventiveness of this twelve-year old boy. He gets away nearly with everything, although he is often caught in trouble. He lives with his aunt Polly, his cousin Mary and his half-brother Sid. They don't get along well, because Sid is a seemingly positive hero, while Tom often misbehaves. He is rather careless and he likes showing off in front of other boys. His best friends are Huckleberry Finn and Joe Harper.

In my opinion, this hero represents childhood in all forms. He can easily get in love with a girl. His first love was Amy Lawrence, but later he fell in love with his classmate Becky Thatcher. He can run away with friends to an island to enjoy freedom. Apart from aunt Polly, Tom has a distant aunt Sally Phelps, who lives considerably far, down the river Mississippi. Aunt Polly is rather stern, but she has a loving and caring nature. She does care about Tom and his behavior. She genuinely worries when the boys disappear. The next book that I'm going to read is “The Adventures if Huckleberry Finn” written by the same author. My mum says that my favourite literary hero, Tom Sawyer, appears in this book as well.
