Начнем с того, что словосочетания в английском языке разделяются на сильные и слабые. Сильные словосочетания — это те, в которых нельзя заменить один из элементов синонимом, то есть существует очень мало вариантов выразить тот же смысл. Например, curly hair или winding road считаются сильными, так как не один другой синоним не может нести такое же значение.

Задания для практики
Это задание похоже на предыдущее. Здесь преподаватель также пишет глаголы над колонками, а потом называет слова, сочетающиеся с одним из данных глаголов. Ученики в свою очередь должны поставить эти слова в подходящие столбики и составить предложения.
— Collocation mingle. Распечатайте словосочетания на карточках. Половину словесной пары на одной карточке, а другую половину на другой. Раздайте эти карточки студентам и попросите их пообщаться друг с другом и найти пару для своего словосочетания.
— Gap-fill activities. Используя уже знакомый текст, создайте задание по заполнению пробелов, удалив одну часть словосочетания. Студенты должны прочитать весь текст и попытаться выяснить, какое слово пропущено, чтобы закончить словосочетание. Вместо обычного текста также можно взять текст песни.
— Choose your Side. На примере словосочетаний с make и do: учитель разделяет класс, проводя полосу на полу: одна сторона относится к глаголу do, а другая – к make. Учитель называет слово, например, dinner, студент должен переместиться на нужную полосу — make — make dinner.
