London is a beautiful town. There are many nice and interesting places in Great Britain but London is the town I would like to visit first. It’s not only the capital of the country, but also a historical place. So you can see here many monuments and old buildings. That’s why tourists from all over the world want to come here in winter and summer.
The first place that town is famous for is the Tower of London. It is a historical castle that is located in central London. Actually this castle has very long official name- Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London. And in 1988 this place was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
Another interesting for me place is Buckingham Palace. It is a residence of monarch of the United Kingdom. Buckingham Palace is a fantastic building with beautiful garden and luxury furniture. It is one of the locations where Guard’s ceremony takes place.
Trafalgar Square - a beautiful square with a fountain and different monuments. There are always a lot of people here.
Hyde Park is the place where many Englishmen spend their weekends. This is a major park in London. Here you can do sport, study, rest, read, listen to music and just enjoy the life. Tourists and citizens love this place.
Westminster Abbey is the place where the most famous people of Great Britain were buried.
The Thames, London Eye, the British museum and many other places are worth visiting.
London is a beautiful town that you can visit any time of the year. It will surprise you even if you have been here before. Once you come to London you will definitely fall in love with this town. There are many more amazing places to visit, just you need to have time and this town will tell you all the secrets.

Лондон очень красивый город. В Великобритании есть много милых и интересных мест, но Лондон я бы хотела посетить в первую очередь. Это не просто столица страны, но также и историческое место. Так что здесь вы найдёте множество памятников и старинных зданий. Поэтому туристы со всего мира хотят побывать тут и зимой, и летом.
Интересное место, которым особенно славится город - это Лондонский Тауэр. Это исторический замок, который расположен в центральной части Лондона. Вообще-то этот замок имеет длинное официальное название. В 1988 году это место было добавлено в список Всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО.
Ещё одним интересным местом для меня является Букингемский Дворец. Это резиденция монархов Великобритании. Это фантастическое сооружение с красивым садом, шикарной мебелью и покоями. Это одно из тех мест, где проходит церемония смены часовых.
Трафальгарская площадь - красивая площадь с фонтанами и различными памятниками. Здесь постоянно полно народу.
Гайд Парк - это то место, где многие англичане проводят свои выходные. Это самый главный парк Лондона. Тут вы можете заняться спортом, учиться, отдыхать, читать, слушать музыку и просто наслаждаться жизнью. Туристы и горожане любят это место.
Вестминстерское аббатство - это место, где похоронены известные люди Великобритании.
Лондон - красивый город, который вы можете посетить в любое время года. Он потрясёт и удивит вас даже, если вы уже были тут прежде. И как только вы приедете сюда, определенно влюбитесь в эти улочки и здания. Тут можно увидеть гораздо больше, чем вы представляете. Вам только нужно время, чтобы исследовать этот город и раскрыть все его секреты.

The Tower of London
The Tower of London is one of the main London's places of interest. It is located on the north bank of the River Thames and is one of the oldest buildings.
At different times the Tower was used as a royal residence, fortress, prison, mint and, even, zoo. Today the Tower of London is the place where the Crown Jewels are kept.
Every day its doors are open for tourists. A few black ravens live on its territory. The walls of the Tower are still guarded by palace guard in historical outfits.
Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square is located in the centre of London. It was named after the victory in the Battle of Trafalgar. In the centre of the square there is Nelson's column with four lions at the bottom of it.
There are beautiful fountains in the square. Some famous buildings, such as the National Gallery, St. Martin-in-the-fields and Admiralty Arch, are also located there.
The square is the place where a lot of different events and celebrations are held.
Hyde Park is a big park located in central London. Today it is a popular place for meetings, celebrations and festivals.
The park is known for its artificial lake Serpentine where it is allowed to swim. There is a gallery, a museum and several sculptures on the territory of Hyde Park.
During the Olympic Games 2012 Hyde Park was the place where some competitions were held.
St. Paul's Cathedral
St. Paul's Cathedral is located at the highest point of the City of London, Ludgate Hill. The Cathedral was seriously damaged during the Great Fire of London. It was redesigned by Christopher Wren, a famous architect.
There are three Galleries and 17 bells in the Cathedral. The largest bell is called Great Paul.
The British Museum
The British Museum is one of the largest museums in the world. It was founded in the XVIII century and in the XIX century it was already divided into different departments.
The museum houses large collections of artefacts representing different cultures of the world, both ancient and modern.
So, there is the Department of coins and medals, the Department of prints and drawings, the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan and many others.
The London Eye
The London Eye is one the largest Ferris wheels in Europe. Unforgettable views of the city open from its height of 135 metres.
The wheel consists of 32 air-conditioned capsules which symbolize 32 boroughs of London. The London Eye rotates with the speed of 0,9 km/hour. The ride takes 30 minutes. The wheel looks like a big bicycle wheel.
Oxford Street
Oxford Street is a lively shopping street located in the centre of London. There are hundreds of shops in this street. The street is 1,9 km long. It is one of the busiest commercial streets in Europe.
During Christmas time Oxford Street is decorated with lots of lights and garlands making it one of the most popular destinations for tourists.
Westminster
Westminster is a historical area of central London with several famous landmarks.
Westminster Abbey, a Gothic church, is located there. The church is a traditional place of coronation and burial site for all British kings and queens.
Not far from the church there is the Palace of Westminster which is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Big Ben is the name of the Great bell of the clock at the Palace of Westminster. Nowadays this name mostly refers to the clock and the clock tower.
In 2012 the tower was renamed to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Queen and is now officially known as the Elizabeth Tower.
The height of the tower is 96,3 metres. Big Ben is one of the most prominent symbols of the United Kingdom.
Великобритания, страна, на первый взгляд находящаяся в изоляции от остального мира. Островное государство со своими законами, традициями, обычаями, особым политическим устройством, но, тем не менее, ей это нисколько не мешает развиваться и не только в русле государственности, но и культуры.Лондон, крупнейший город Соединенного Королевства стал столицей английского королевства во времена Генриха I. Современный город представляет собой конгломерат разросшихся и слившихся друг с другом городков и деревень, однако его главными историческими центрами являются Сити, Тауэр и Вестминстер. И, несомненно, Лондон является одним из культурных центров Великобритании. Ежегодно тысячи туристов посещают его, дабы увидеть все его красоты воочию.
Действительно, кому бы не хотелось прогуляться по улицам Сити, посетить Вестминстер и загадочный Тауэр? Только одних памятников и монументов в Лондоне не менее 150. Особого внимания заслуживают различные замки, как известные всему миру (например, Виндзор), так и не очень, (замок Глэмис), но ничуть не теряющие интереса в глазах посетителя.
Музей мадам Тюссо заслуживает отдельного внимания. История его создания, да и самой создательницы, очень интересна и увлекательна. Он одно из самых популярных и посещаемых туристами мест в Лондоне.

Вот мы и познакомились с некоторыми достопримечательностями Лондона. Вывод можно сделать следующий, памятники, монументы и сейчас привлекают к себе немалый интерес, увековечив память знаменитых людей. Замки тем временем, изменялись в своей истории, переносили невзгоды, пожары, были свидетелями политических заговоров, революций, впитав в себя таинственный дух средневековья, когда они были построены. Они до сих пор не перестают наводить страх на туристов своими легендами о приведениях, но как бы то ни было, это делает их еще более привлекательными и заманчивыми, и притягивают к себе все сильнее и сильнее…
Вот мы и познакомились с некоторыми достопримечательностями Лондона. В заключении следует добавить, что, несомненно, Лондон город увлекательный и заманчивый для тысяч туристов. Огромное количество исторически значимых достопримечательностей хранится в музеях и галереях. А замки являются живыми свидетелями исторических событий в истории Англии.
Действительно, Лондон необыкновенный город. В Лондоне никому не придет в голову снести какой-нибудь памятник или, скажем, переименовать улицу. Принадлежащее разным эпохам сосуществует здесь естественно и надежно. И Тауэр, и Вестминстер, бесспорно, еще долго, если не всегда, будут символами Лондона.
