Life in the 21st century is developing very fast. If you look on people's lives in your country five years ago you probably will be surprised how it has changed through years. I think life even in 10-20 years will be different from which we have now. And what can we say about the next 50 years?

First of all, I should divide my composition on sections. Because the question of lives changing may be considered from different points of view like changes in technology, climate, politics and so on.

In the next 50 years I think the process of globalization will be moving fast. Unions like the European Union, the African Union and so on may be will be united in federative states. In the world there will be big powerful countries with deep decentralization inside. Unfortunately, a lot of small cultures and languages will die. Probably English, Chinese and Hindi will be the most popular languages, but I think English will keep its managing role in the world. I'm sure that we will see a lot of changes in states structure. Some states will be united in a bigger countries; some states will be divided on smaller parts.

I hope that in future international law will play much more important role than nowadays; nobody won’t begin wars or to occupy alien’s territories. I hope that there will be no more conflicts based on discrimination or hatred and the world will be better. I hope people will live in brotherhood and maybe John Lennon's world will be prophetic.

In the next 50 years technology will obviously change our lives. Even now we can see fantastic robots, inventions and devices that make our lives easier. In the nearest future we'll have robots that will manage in trafficking, medicine, security, and army and so on. I hope with new inventions in medicine and pharmacology people will be able to live longer and healthy.

In general, I think our life will change in a better way but we should work for it. We should solve our environmental problems, problems with peace and security in conflicted regions, fight piracy and banditry. We should use ecologically clear products and minimized harm from the industry. Only this way can bring us to a bright and happy future!

Сегодня я не буду документировать мыслительный процесс, который привел к такому эссе. Предварительные заметки и способы составления плана сочинения мы уже видели в предыдущем посте об IELTS эссе.

Еще в этот раз я, коварная, не дам сразу готовое эссе. Сконструируем его сами из готовых, но перепутанных предложений. Возможен только один вариант текста. Почему так категорично? Потому что главное качество грамотно написанного текста/эссе – связность. Одно ведет к другому ~~мысль невозможно прокрутить назад~~ и тесно переплетено друг с другом: внутри предложения, между предложениями, между параграфами.

IELTS эссе состоит из 4 параграфов:

Вступление
Параграф - первая точка зрения
Параграф - вторая точка зрения
Заключение

Перетаскиванием предложений составьте связное и логичное эссе IELTS:

А теперь займемся связностью текста (cohesion). Напомню на всякий случай, что средств связности текста – громадье. Есть грамматические, есть лексические. Сейчас из всего многообразия выберем тематические/лексические поля, местоимения, замену слов на one/ones. Остальное трогать не будем (союзы, артикли, эллипсис и др.).

Найдем в этом IELTS эссе слова и выражения, связанные со следующими понятиями:

А явное наличие тематических полей доказывает то, что мы пишем по теме (вернитесь к формулировке задания и посмотрите, какие слова из каких тематических полей там), а не поменяли ее под шумок.

Теперь посмотрим на местоимения и замену слов на one/ones. Выберите из вариантов a, b, c нужное слово/фразу, к которой ведет местоимение (это называется pronoun referencing):

Итак, эти средства связности текста (тематические поля, синонимы, местоимения и слова one/ones) помогают избежать ненужных повторов слов и собрать текст в единое целое.

А еще то, что мы сейчас проделали, называется лингвистический анализ текста, если точнее – его часть.

Словообразование в английском языке

Теперь займемся метаморфозами. Попробуем перефразировать каждое предложение эссе, используя другую форму слова. Например, в оригинальном тексте:

А мы перефразируем undoubtedly и напишем:

Здесь тоже все достаточно однозначно: разные части речи и формы одного слова могут находиться только в определенных структурах и позициях в предложении.

Словообразование – тоже очень полезная штука. Из одного слова можно сделать несколько и свободно ими пользоваться. Можно менять структуру предложения, как вам заблагорассудится, и не ограничивать полет фантазии строгими рамками. Зачем менять структуру предложений? Снова по той же причине – чтобы избежать повторов. Только выше мы говорили про повторы слов, а сейчас про грамматические повторы, избыток которых смотрится невыигрышно и оценивается очень невысоко. То есть, такой например, фрагмент не получит высокого балла на IELTS:

Some people think that change is always positive. They believe that change brings multiple benefits. Others feel that change is a threat. They claim that change results in discomfort and confusion.

Несмотря на приличную лексику (за исключением повтора слова change) и правильную грамматику, все предложения написаны по одной модели.

Повторы и связность

Ну и напоследок, попробуем применить все, о чем мы говорили, на практике и прокачаем навыки письма IELTS эссе. Текст ниже – кошмарный кошмар, с которым нужно срочно что-то делать. Что именно? Переписать и избавиться от повторов – либо с помощью местоимений, либо синонимов, либо слов из того же тематического поля. Подсказка: нужные места зачеркнуты.

Can you imagine what our lives will be like in the year 2050? Perhaps you will be flying off for a holiday on the moon, or maybe you will be taking your dog for a walk in the virtual reality. We recently carried out a survey of 1,000 people from different countries to find out what they think life will be like in the future. The results clearly demonstrate both our hopes and fears. The survey suggests that friendship - one of the most important human relationships -will have changed dramatically. People will make friends through the Internet. What is more, a large number of people will even come across their future husbands or wives in this way! Computers will have become essential by 2050. Even now, some people describe them as their best friend! Others, however, say that we will become much more isolated from each other because we will have little real human contact. Education will have changed a lot too. As more and more children will be using computers in schools, certain abilities, such as mental arithmetic will not be necessary since there will be computer programs. Even writing by hand will have become outdated. According to the survey, home life will be better. Most people believe that by 2050 robots will be doing the housework and we will be eating ready-made food. A lot of people think that we might only cook for fun in the future. Space exploration will become increasingly popular. Fifty per cent of the people we talked to believe that man will regularly visit Mars. They also believe that travel on our own planet will probably change. Almost everyone thinks that there will be no cars in the city centers. Some even think that environmentally friendly electric or solar-powered cars will have replaced the cars we use nowadays. Pollution is something that seems to worry many people. Some fear that it will continue to get worse, and that our planet will become impossible to live on. Others even foresee that one day we will have to pay for clean air just as we do now for clean water. On the other hand, people seem to be quite optimistic about the benefits of genetic engineering, as they think scientists will use it to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS. If scientists manage to find a cure for these, we will have a much healthier society. Some people worry about the future, while others are full of hope and enthusiasm. No matter how dark or bright it may seem, it is up to us to look after our planet and try to make it a better place to live.
