First of all, I want to say that I realize that education means a lot in our lives. There is a wide range of functions that it performs but I consider that it’s a clue to decent and comfortable life. So I do my best to learn as much as possible to be able to use the knowledge in my future.
School studies for me are important as they form the base for my professional development and carrier in the future. I study in one of typical secondary schools. I’ve never wanted to study in a gymnasium or lyceum because I think that your success depends on your desire but not the type of educational establishment.
I really love to study. And I think that it’s natural. Youth is the period of life when you must study if you want to be successful. I don’t like to waste time. I use every chance to learn something new because I find it’s really catching. Of course, I have hobbies and spend my time with friends but I always have time for studies.
At school I spend half of my working day. Usually we have 6-7 lessons a day. My favourite lessons are Math and Physics. I love science because I consider it’s useful and knowledge of science can help in many situations. Moreover, I want to become an engineer and I need these subjects for going to the University. So I also study with tutors to improve my knowledge. Besides, I like History because we have a great teacher! In general, most school subject are interesting for me. Maybe except Literature. It’s a shame but I don’t like reading.
School for me is not only lessons, of course. I have many friends among my classmates. So it’s quite enjoyable to communicate with them during breaks. And we always help each other with solving small and big school problems.
After school I have lunch and half an hour of rest. Then I do my homework. It usually takes my about 2-3 hours. It depends on the day. Homework is not a torture for me. I like to revise everything I’ve heard and seen during the day. And the assignments are like small challenges for me!
I try to be a diligent student. But to tell you the truth, sometimes I can be lazy. I think it’s quite understandable. Most young people want to have fun and I’m not an exception. So I find time to spent it together with my friends. We have a small music band and at weekends we always rehearse. It’s like a break from studies. After such rehearses I feel new energy to work and study again.

The Irkutsk State University of Railways (ISUR) is one of the best-known and most popular institutions of higher education in East Siberia . Every year a lot of young people try to get into the University. They take entrance examinations and pass interviews to become students of the University.
The University was founded in 1975. Before 1975 it was a branch of the Novosibirsk Railway Transport Institute. At first there were 3 faculties: the Railway Construction, the Railway Operation and the Electro-mechanical faculties.
Now about 12000 students are enrolled at the University. The University has many faculties including the faculty of Economics, the Railway Operation faculty, the Railway Construction faculty, the Electro-Mechanical and the Electro-Technical faculties. The Institute of Information Technology and Modelling as part of the University was founded in 2002.
There is also a department of foreign students. About 60 people from Mongolia study there.
The University trains students in more than 20 specialties such as Management, Finance, Bridges and Tunnels, Customs, Railway Economy, Crisis Management, Railway Operation and others. The curriculum includes subjects on specialties, social sciences, physical training and foreign languages.
Our University has a good library, reading rooms, a gymnasium and sports grounds. There are some student halls not far from the University.
The official name of the University is the Irkutsk State University of Ways of Communication, but most people call it Irkutsk Railway University .
The University offers three types of study: full-time, part-time and further education.
A great number of departments help students prepare for their future work. There are many well-equipped laboratories where students conduct various experiments. Highly qualified tutors, lecturers and professors give lectures and hold seminars on different subjects.
Sports play an important part in the physical training of the students. There are many Masters of sports among the students of the University.
At the end of the 5 th year the students present their graduation project and get the diploma of a railway engineer. It gives them the right to work at workshops, depots, locomotive building works, on construction sites, at scientific institutions and other offices and enterprises in different branches of national industry and economy. Some students who are good at scientific research carry on studying at postgraduate level.

My working day begins early in the morning. I get up at 7 o’clock in the morning. I do my bed and go to the bathroom to wash my face and hands and brush my teeth.
Then I comb, get dressed and go to the kitchen where I help my mother to make breakfast. I usually have boiled eggs, some porridge, a cup of coffee, bread and butter. After breakfast I leave my place and go to school. My school is not far from my house. It takes me about half an hour to get there by bus.
My lessons begin at 8.30 and finish at 3 p.m. As a rule I have 6 lessons every working day. After each lesson we have a break. During breaks we have a rest, discuss the latest news, problems and have a snack.
At 3 o’clock the classes are over and I go home. After dinner I do some work about the house. I wash dishes, go shopping and get down to study again. I spend a great deal of time on my lessons. When 1 am through with my study 1 rest a little. I listen to music, look through the newspapers or magazines, phone my friends and relatives, watch TV, read books. Sometimes my friends call for me and we go for a walk. At 10 o’clock when I am tired I go to bed.

3. My daily routine
My name is Sergei. I’m fourteen years old. To have time to do everything I try to map out my time correctly.

In the mornings I like to eat fried eggs or omelette, cheese sandwich and to drink white coffee. My lessons begin at 8:30. I have to get to my school four stops by bus and not to be late I leave home at 7:50.
At 2 o’clock the lessons are over. If the weather is good I like to go home from school on foot. After dinner I like to watch TV. I go in for boxing twice a week. My training begins at 3 o’clock and lasts for an hour. Then I do my homework. My parents go home after their work at half past five and we have supper at about six o’clock.
I go for a walk with my friends in the evening. We go to the cinema or spend time in the public garden. I go to bed at 10 o’clock. Thanks to the fact that I have plan of the day I have the time for studies and a good rest.

4. My Daily Programme
My every day activities are quite routine. On weekdays the alarm clock wakes me up and my working day begins. I usually get up at 7 o'clock. If it is spring or summer I jump out of bed, run to the window and open it wide to let the fresh morning air in. I do my physical jerks, wash, clean my teeth and comb my hair. Then I have breakfast. For breakfast I usually have toasted bread, bacon and eggs, tea or coffee and some jam. While I am having breakfast, I switch on the radio and listen to the news. It takes me 10 minutes to get to school. School starts at 8 sharp and I have lessons till half past 12. I usually have six or seven lessons a day. I return home at 2 o'clock and take a short rest and I have lunch at 3. After doing my homework I go for a walk with my friends. I often play chess with them. I am a member of a chess club. Sometimes we go to the pictures or the theatre but not very often. In summer I like to get out more, so in the evenings I go to the tennis court for a few sets of tennis, or take out my bike for a run in the country. My parents usually return home at 19 o'clock. We have dinner at 19.30. As usual dinner consists of soup, fish or roast chicken, potatoes, vegetables and dessert. After dinner we go to the sitting room. There we read books, newspapers and magazines, watch TV, chat with the friends on the phone. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I attend preparatory courses at the University. I leave home at 4.30 afternoon and come back at 8.30. At 10 o'clock I take a shower, brush my teeth and go to bed. I fall asleep fast and have no dreams.

5. My daily schedule
Our dynamic life is full of different activities, and I believe that it is very helpful when you have a scheduled daily routine because it can save your time. I am a schoolboy at present, so let me tell you some words about my daily schedule.
I am not an early bird but as a rule I have to wake up quite early, at 6.30 (six thirty, or half past six) on weekdays. I stay in my bed for 5 or 10 minutes and then I get up. I open the window to let some fresh air enter the room. My morning routine consists of making the bed, taking a shower and having breakfast. At 7 o’clock I go to the kitchen where my mother has already made breakfast for me and my dad. I prefer boiled eggs, a sandwich and a cup of tea in the morning. After breakfast I go to the bathroom again to clean my teeth and comb my hair. I get dressed next. Our school uniform is a shirt and black trousers.
At 7.30 (seven thirty, or half past seven) I leave home and go to school. It takes me about 15 minutes to get there on foot. I often surf the Internet on my phone before the lessons start at 8 a.m. I usually have 5 or 6 lessons every day, so at about 2 o’clock my school is over. We have a long break after the 4th lesson, so I can have lunch in our school canteen.
On my way home I always enjoy my walk. If I am not in a hurry, my friends and I visit a shop or a café before going home. We eat ice-cream and take funny pictures of ourselves. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I attend additional Maths courses at the university, and I also play basketball on Wednesday afternoons. When I get home I try to find some time for a little rest. I watch TV, play computer games, chat on the phone or just listen to music. At about 4 o’clock I start doing my homework. It generally takes me 2 or 3 hours to do that, though sometimes I sit with my homework till late at night.
When my parents come home from their work we usually have dinner. Then I often do the washing-up and take the rubbish out. I go to bed at about 11 p.m. I am usually so tired that I fall asleep at once.
I don’t have enough time for my hobbies during my weekdays, so they seem a bit boring probably. But I often devote my weekends to reading, doing sports and studying English. In winter I mainly go skiing or skating, and in summer I usually go roller-skating, playing football or riding a bicycle.

6. My Daily Routine
As a rule, I get up at half past six. I put on my dressing-gown, go into bathroom and turn on the bath taps. Good health is better than wealth, so I do my morning exercises. I get breakfast at seven-thirty and listen to the news over the radio.
I like to begin the day well, so my breakfast is always a good one. For breakfast I usually have hard-boiled eggs or an omelette, bread and butter, tea or coffee.
Then, I say "Good-bye" to my mother, take my school-bag and go to school. I don't live far from my school, so it doesn't take me long to get there. The lessons start at half past eight. Each lesson lasts for 45 minutes. The classes are over at two o'clock.
I come back home, have dinner, wash up and go shopping. I buy foodstuffs for the family. Coming back I begin to clean the house and get the vegetables ready for supper. We have supper at seven. I do my homework for the next day. It usually takes me several hours to prepare well for the lessons.
In the evening, I always try to spend at least an hour at the piano. As a rule my parents and I sit and talk, watch a film on TV, read newspapers and magazines. Sometimes, we go to the cinema or to the theatre. Once or twice a month, I visit exhibitions in my home town. I go to bed at about eleven o'clock, but my parents like to sit up late and write letters or read.
