Reading books is a very important role in the life of people. It
educates a person, enriches his intellect. Books bring pleasure and delight. I
consider that books are with us during all our life. When I was a child my
parents read them to me, I was pleased to listen to the stories and tales. I
have learned a lot of interesting things from books since then. Now I like to
read books on science. I am keen on reading the great variety of encyclopedias,
reference books, technical magazines, etc.
People are fond of reading different kinds of books. Some people
enjoy reading detective stories, adventure stories, novels, biographies, other
prefer classics. Fairy tales are enjoyed and read by children, books about
adventures and journeys are enjoyed by those who are fond of traveling. Legends
and myths are read by those who are fond of history.
Sometimes we read the same book again and again. It's a wonderful
way of spending spare time. Thanks to books we learn to express our thoughts
and feelings more exactly. The book is faithful and understanding friend. It
can be put aside and taken up again at any moment. You can gain knowledge on
many things from books. Books awaken the young reader's imagination. They teach
the readers to be truthful, friendly, honest, careful, fair and serious.
Books shouldn't be read only by pleasure. Reading books helps us
in our education. Libraries play an important part in the cultural development
of people. We can find all kinds of books in the libraries. In some libraries
we can even find books in many foreign languages.
I am sure that books play a very important role in my life. Our
family has got many books. All the members of our family buy books and read
them. My mother says that books help us in self-education. Books must be our
friends during all our life. Books are worth reading!

Books in Our Life
Books. I think that we can't live without them. I consider that books are with us during all our life. When I was a child my parents read them to me. I was pleased to listen to the stories and tales. I learned a lot of interesting things from books. I remember, I liked thick books.
Later I could read myself. I like to read books about animals, nature and children. I like to get presents on my birthday. I am happy if it is a book. It doesn't matter what kind of book it is. I like to read almost all books. If I have got time I like to spend it with my favourite book.
When I was fifteen I was fond of reading too. But I preferred to read books about travels. I travelled with the heroes of the stories. I saw many interesting places and learned a lot of important facts about other countries and people. Now I like to read books on science.
You can learn many things from books. I am sure that books play a very important role in my life. Our family has got many books. All the members of our family buy books and read them. My mother says that books help us in self-education.
In ancient times books were written by hand. It was difficult to write a book with a pen. Then printing came into our life. Printing played an important role in the development of literature and culture. Now there are a lot of books in the shops, there are many books in our flats. But it is difficult to buy all books which we want to read. That's why we get books in public libraries.
There are some problems in our life and sometimes it is difficult to solve them. I think that books can help us. Last year I read a very interesting book "An American Tragedy" by Theodore Dreiser. This novel was published at the beginning of the 20th century. The novel describes the tragic fate of a boy and a girl, Clyde and Roberta by name. It is a sad story. This novel was written many years ago, but it is popular nowadays.
Books must be our friends during all our life.
Books play a very important role in our life. Since the very childhood our parents and grandparents read fairytales for us, later on at school we study modern and classical literature. At that time we can understand what is our favorite genre of literature and what books we prefer. When we become adults we read detective stories or novels, psychological books and so on. As you can see books are with us during all our life.
We can learn many things and get a lot of useful information there. For example, if you want to learn information about yourself, psychological books will be very helpful for you. Here you can read how to grow up the children or how to manage with depression. This is what I am interesting in now. I know different writers, but of course I have already my favorite ones.
Classical literature is interesting and unique. First of all we can learn the way people used to live before, the hobby and norms. Also these books will teach us and our children some simple truths. There are good and bad things, friends and enemies, love and betrayal. Dostoevskii, Pushkin, Bulgakov, Turgenev will describe these truths very well to everybody.
My parents like to read detective stories and novels. They say these books help them to relax and see another reality. They can not be sure what is the end of the story and that’s why it’s so interesting to read. I think modern literature is not so interesting. Unfortunately today many people can write a book with no plot. I guess you need to have a gift to write an interesting book.
Books are never bore to me. I can read a book the whole day and I would feel happy and I will spend this time with use and pleasure. I believe books make us smart, communicative and friendly people.

Книги играют очень важную роль в нашей жизни. С самого детства наши родители, дедушки и бабушки читали нам сказки на ночь, потом в школе мы изучаем современную и классическую литературу. В этот период мы начинаем понизать, какой наш любимый литературный жанр и какие книги мы все-таки предпочитаем читать. Когда мы вырастаем, мы читаем детективные истории или романы, психологические книги и тому подобное. Как видите, книги сопровождают нас всю жизнь.
Мы можем изучить много интересных вещей и почерпнуть полезную информацию. Например, если вы хотите узнать какую-то информацию о себе, психологические книги тут будут крайне полезны. В них вы найдёте и как вырастить ребёнка, и как побороть депрессию. Это та литература, которой я интересуюсь сейчас. Я знаю, что есть разные писатели, но у меня уже появились любимчики.
Классическая литература довольно интересная и уникальная. Прежде всего, мы узнаем, как люди жили раньше, их хобби и нормы жизни. А ещё эти книги учат нас и научат наших детей простым истинам. Ведь в мире есть добро и зло, друзья и враги, любовь и предательство. Достоевский, Пушкин, Булгаков, Тургенев опишут эти истины самым простым языком каждому из нас.
Мои родители любят читать детективы и романы. Они говорят, что эти книги помогают расслабиться и увидеть другую реальность. Они не знают наверняка, чем закончится история, поэтому этот жанр им так интересен. А я не считаю современную литературу такой уж интересной. К сожалению, сегодня многие люди пишут книги без захватывающего сюжета. Я считаю, что у человека должен быть дар, чтобы написать интересную книгу.
Книги мне никогда не наскучат. Я могу читать целый день и буду чувствовать себя счастливой. А ещё проведу время с пользой и в своё удовольствие. Я верю, что книги делают нас умными, общительными и дружелюбными.

Origin of books
Many, many years ago a town crier ran through the streets and shouted out all the news.
But now we live in the Atomic Age. Too many things happen too quickly for us to learn about them in the old- fashioned way. That is why we have to read more and more in order to find out what is happening in the world. Reading is rarely a waste of time.
Have you ever thought about the kind of books people used long ago? It is only in the last 500 years that books have been printed on paper. Before that time the only way of making books was to write them out by hand. No one knows when writing first began, but we have found drawings on the walls of caves and scratchings on bones which are at least 25,000 years old.
The invention of paper played a very important part in the development of books. In the 11th century the art of papermaking reached Europe but no trace of printing was found in Europe 1423. It is known that Johann Gutenberg secretly tried out ways of printing in Strasbourg, Germany, in 1440£ The knowledge of the methods of printing spread so quickly over the Continent of Europe that by the year Щ nearly every country had started printing books. Later people began to learn how to make paper more quickly and cheaply and of better quality.
As a result of this, books became much lighter and smaller. The first person to print books in the English language was William Caxton, in Russia — Ivan Fedorov. Ivan Fedorov and his assistants were the first to use Russian letters . By the 16th century books looked very much as they do today and since then very little change has been made their appearance.
Books in our life
Nowadays it's almost impossible to imagine our life without books. Perhaps, there are more books on our plan than men alive. Long before the invention of printing people valued books as treasure troves of the human knowledge and experience. Hand — written manuscripts took months of writing and were collected by and kept in monasteries with utmost care. We can distinguish books between three classes of them. Firstly, books on different branches knowledge, works by brilliant minds of mankind. Secondly, textbooks, reference books and numerous dictionaries And at last, books of all kinds and genres to read at leisure.
Classics should be taken a little at a time. One's understanding of books lay Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, Mopassan and Balzak depends on one's age and experience. Serious books are to be read conscientiously and maybe more th once. To a thinking reader they will provide new food for thought every time he rereads it. ь
The same could be said in favour of detective stories. They reveal such minute details of everyday life in this that particular country that are of greatest interest for a curious reader. The masterpieces of this genre by S s Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and others, show the depths of psychological analysis, the insight into the human nature.
